Putting People at the Heart of Heritage

The Rural Media Company

Involving, Engaging, Explaining, Inspiring

The Rural Media Company is an award winning production, education and development charity working throughout the UK. We innovate and create ground breaking digital projects and productions with the communities we serve, creatively connecting and engaging people of all ages and abilities in order to share their stories and to enrich their lives. We can find stories from the past and start conversations in the present. We use the latest digital technology to involve, inspire and enable people to enjoy, explore, interpret, understand and preserve their heritage. Creative participation and audience engagement are vital elements in our approach.

Using the archive as a launching pad, irrigating the appetites of the young people of the area, is as good as it gets really. Taking it on the way that you are doing is very imaginative Lord Melvyn Bragg

Creating, communicating, collaborating, training

We work with historians, archivists, archaeologists and professional artists from many disciplines to deliver our projects. We inspire imaginations and help people think, question and understand more about their heritage. Our award winning portfolio of work includes documentaries, film dramas, radio plays, animations, digital stories, photography, multimedia tours, websites, books and educational resource packs. It is recognised for its quality, honesty and integrity and has been broadcast on the BBC, shared in schools and screened at film festivals around the world. We work closely with participants and teach them the creative skills required to ensure that their project is a success. We deliver compelling and memorable experiences for all our participants, clients and audiences.

What a joy! These wonderful, engaging digital stories, often comical, sometimes sad, occasionally harsh, provide real insight into farming families whose lives deserve to be remembered. Jo Brand

Once again The Rural Media Company has demonstrated their extraordinary skill in locating great filmmaking within a social and educational context; giving young people the creative opportunity to shape, perform in and produce a remarkable piece of work. Phil Redmond CBE
