Post-Game Quotes
YANKEES MANAGER JOE GIRARDI: Question regarding Phil Hughes: He used his changeup a little more tonightHe did a really good job of throwing strikes. How much do you love to see an offensive output like that in the third inning? Its great whenever you can give a pitcher a lead like that and let him go to work. When you get the three-run homer from Robby then Tex follows it up, then we put some hits together; its really nice to see. What does Teixeira being in the lineup mean? It makes a big difference because Ive talked about how productive he is: being a switch-hitter, dividing up the lefties, it makes a huge difference. And, you know, throwing hes a gold glove as well. Hes really good. How much do 3-run homers help change the game? It changes it a lot because you can get runs very quickly, you can get them in bunches and give your pitchers something to work with. It changes it a lot. Is Hughes a different pitcher away from home? I think any pitcher is going to give up a few more home runs in our ballpark then the other ballparks you go to, especially on the west coast where there just arent as many home runs hit out there. No hes the same [in the way he approaches the game]. Is there anything disappointing in getting one hit in over 8 innings? Its part of baseball. I dont care when we score six runs. If you get six runs a night youre probably going to win a lot of games.
