Welcome to 8th grade Literacy! I am thrilled to welcome have you to our class this school year. This is my second year of teaching middle school and I look forward to not only teaching you, but also learning from you! I do my best to create exciting and relatable lessons. I am big on teamwork and in our class we will work together cooperatively. Since we are a team I expect everyone to respect the thoughts and ideas that are shared in our room. This year we will be doing a lot of thinking, sharing and exploring of different strategies to make us become better readers, thinkers, listeners, and communicators! It is my philosophy that everyone has the opportunity to build relationships, have access to a rigorous curriculum as well as to feel safe and successful in our class! I also believe that our classroom is a family structure that will allow us to grow and share our thoughts and ideas. To ensure that we have an amazing year together, I have a promise to make to you and you have one to make to me in return. My promise to you: 1. I will come to class prepared each day ready to teach 2. I will be make myself available for tutoring and to talk about concerns 3. I will respect the time and effort that you put into your work 4. I will be your coach even when we disagree 5. Your promise to me: 1. I will come to class with all of my materials ready to learn 2. I will participate in class discussions and be an active learner 3. I will be take responsibility for my own work 4. I will work as a team 5. You will notice that number five is left blank on my pledge and on your pledge. On the note card included in this letter, please think of a number five for me and a number five for you. I will collect these from you at the second day of class. My Three Non-Negotiable Rules for the Classroom: 1. Respect yourself & others 2. Be a leader 3. Be on Time We will talk more about these rules and some consequences when they are not followed during our first few class times.
