Electronic Newsletter for Wyomings OUT-OF-OPTIONS Furkids

June 10, 2013

e-WOOF is a bi-monthly

e-newsletter produced by a small group of Wyoming dog rescuers in an effort to highlight shelter dogs in critical need of help.

URGENT - Casper Metro Animal Control Contact: Cathy Corbin at 307-267-6524 or rescuerangers2@yahoo.com MONKEY is a Terrier/Lab mix, 3 years old. Monkey is a cute little girl with a lively, fun, and happy attitude. She enjoys her walks, and is very sweet. She is housebroken and does not jump fences. She likes people and other dogs, and possibly cats too. She is playful, active, and outgoing. Monkey hopes a new, truly forever home will find her. Will it be with you? ALEX is a German Shepherd mix, 8 years young. Alex is a handsome guy who is also very sweet, kind, and gentle. He likes people and other dogs, and he enjoys going for walks. Dont let his age fool you, Alex is spry and agile, as well as friendly, and would love to have a new family to go on walks with him. Hes waiting for that special family to come, take him for that walk, and realize just what a great guy he is! ____________

e-WOOF spotlights many dogs that face euthanasia within days unless they are rescued, fostered, or adopted.
Transport can be arranged, in most cases, to approved adoptive or foster homes or rescue organizations. Please help us! These are good, healthy, happy, loving dogs that are out of luck and out of time. We urge you to crosspost to e-mail lists and Web groups, forward to friends, send to co-workers, and share with family. We hope our efforts, combined with yours, will save many lives.

Ark Valley Humane Society -- Buena Vista, CO Contact: 719-395-2737 or info@ark-valley.org Web: http://www.ark-valley.org BARKLEY is a 9 month old Shepherd mix who is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and microchipped. When he came to our shelter three months ago, he was nearly completely feral. He came in with his three sisters and was very protective of them. With a lot of work and TLC, he has at least started to trust the staff and will allow some of the volunteers to interact with him. He is a very sweet, playful, and happy-go-lucky dog once he is comfortable in his environment. His ideal home would be one without children but possibly another confident dog to help him come out of his shell a little more. Hes also learned to wear a collar and walk on leash so any potential adopters would need to be committed to continuing his training. Were hoping someone will come along who will see the same potential in Barkley that we do. He deserves a chance! ____________ Cheyenne Animal Shelter Contact: 307-632-6655 or foster@cheyenneanimalshelter.org KAKOROT is a 9 year old male Shepherd/Terrier mix. He is high energy for his age. He has been here for a very long time and he needs out as soon as possible. He is house trained, friendly, a social butterfly, and needs a great home. GERDIE is a 3 year old female Hound mix and a very loving girl. She doesnt play well with other dogs but she loves kids. She can jump a 5 foot fence so you need to keep an eye on her when she is outside. She is a good walking dog. She is a great dog who just needs another chance. CARLY is a 6 month old female Retriever mix. She doesnt present
well at the kennel but she is super sweet once you get her out and acts like a typical puppy! She does need basic puppy training and we are currently working on house training her.

Time is of the essence for helping the dogs featured in the e-WOOF newsletters. Please contact the name/numbers for each dog before contacting eWOOF. In most cases, time is limited for the dogs featured in our newsletters--with that in mind, we try to get the word out to as many contacts as we can using this publication. Work on behalf of the animals for finding them homes and/ or rescues comes from many, many sources and is an ONGOING effort dealt with a sense of urgency. In some cases there may be times when a sudden adoption and/or rescue comes through at the exact time our newsletter is issued. This is an unforeseen circumstance on our part--while we certainly understand the crossover may cause frustrations for you as the prospective adopter of an animal we hope you join us in rejoicing for an animal being saved. We appreciate and thank you for your continued support FOR THE

TANNER (no photo) is a 4 year old male yellow Retriever/Lab mix. Heres Tanners story: he belonged to a family who over fed him and the other dog in the house and was advised by a vet to put them both on a diet, but they took the diet issue too far and both dogs ended up nearly starved. On a body scale he was at a 3. One day the two dogs were fighting over a toy and the little girl who lived in the home got between them and tried to take the toy away and got bit. Tanner subsequently was surrendered to the shelter where we have got him on a feeding schedule. Were happy to say he has now put on weight. He was safer tested and passed with flying colors but he needs a second chance with a loving owner. MCBARKER is an 11 month old male Chihuahua. He is so cute! He has been on the floor for a while and is a little shy guy when he first meets people but warms up to them quickly. Dont be fooled by his name--he does not bark a lot! ____________

Sheridan, WY Contact: Jody at 307-672-9354 or dogsetc@actaccess.net SWEETIE and DOBBY were found together, abandoned, at
a rest stop near Lodge Grass, Montana. A Good Samaritan picked them up and they are now in Sheridan. We believe they are mother and son with Dobby estimated at about eight months old. They will both be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and ready to go to a foster or adoptive home next week. Sweetie is pretty thin but will probably be about 65 lbs when she is at a good weight and she is probably about 2 years old. She is absolutely the sweetest dog!. The girls at the vet clinic have really worked both dogs over and neither one has offered any kind of protest. Very affectionate and good on a leash. It would be great if they can go to a home together, but it is not a requirement.

SWEETIE

A PETS PRAYER
My people are so precious, Lord; I know You think so, too... And I believe you put me here To love them just for You! They take such gentle care of me And have such tender hearts... Please use me, Lord, to comfort them Whenever teardrops start. They face a lot of battles As they live & work each day... They need me, Lord, To make them smile And show them how to play! The world is full of people, But sometimes real friends are few... Please let my love and loyalty Remind them, Lord, of You. And when my final moment comes, Lord, tell them as we part... I was a made-to-order gift From Your great, loving heart! --Author Unknown

TRANSPORTERS NEEDED...If you can help drive a dog to safety, please join our transporters list. For more information on volunteering please e-mail to ewoof@wyoming.com We welcome volunteers from all states.

Ozzie was a senior German Shepherd in the Longmont, Colorado, shelter that we received an emergency email about. Seniors tend not to do well in shelters and are often euthanized due to their adoptability. Many folks just wont give seniors a chance! We featured Ozzie on our Facebook page and one of our longtime eWOOF supporters and adopters in Denver saw him. Nick has adopted several dogs via eWOOF and given them a wonderful home. Now it is Ozzies turn! We are so happy that Nick adopted Ozzie and he will live out his days with Nick! Here is his update and some new photos. We think youll agree that Ozzie is a handsome boy!

OZZIE

Ozzie is one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs Ive ever had, and Shawna was pretty sweet, too. He never barks and doesnt get excited about anything that may come along. Both my guys get along with him just fine. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves or at least dont play together. We went to my aunts house in Longmont today with a big back yard and everything went just fine. He got two new Kong tennis balls that used to be bright yellow. Besides soaking wet, they are now a dingy brown. The Friday I got him I took him to meet a couple neighbors and Lori noted his facial expression was not happy and his tail was just hanging. She saw him a few days later and noticed a big difference. His face was happy, big old smile, tail wagging like crazy. He has adapted very nicely and is very happy, especially when his new LL Bean super-sized dog bed got here! He is very skinny right now, and may have been that way for awhile, and would have to turn over every half hour or so as everything is sticking out...ribs, shoulders, hips...and they get sore after a bit. With the new bed he doesnt have to turn over all night. On the negative side, his teeth are in terrible shape (you can see in the picture) and he has Canine Epilepsy. Nothing major, it is manageable, and once the vet gets back from vacation and I have had more time to see just how bad it is, it can be treated with medications and you can get him through it if you know what to do. It sure freaks you out though. So, thanks again for showing him on Facebook. He is the guy Shawna and Edison (my previous dogs) wanted me to have. Ive seen both of them in him. --Nick
