ESE-2012 Interview experience of NTPC working candidate in Mechanical Engineering

Name : Gaurav gupta Mechanical Engineering

I was interviewed in the morning session on 29th of april 2013 by a panel of 5 members consisting of one chairman named Mr Manbir Singh for HR questions and four others for technical. My Interview was stress free and a positive environment was surrounding me. Most of the questions asked were based on my work profile in NTPC ltd. Questions were technical but practical rather than theoretical. Interview lasted 20 mins.Some questions were asked about my college (IIT Roorkee). If you are already working,get ready to know all technicalities in detail about your work profile. Some of the questions that I remember are as under:

Q:What is the world record for swimming? (I listed swimming as my hobby) Q: what is your work in NTPC? I told them.. Q: What are the problems that you face in NTPC Rihand on daily basis? I explained about work issue Q: Did you do anything in NTPC that can be considered as an achievement? Q: Where do you get coal from? Q:What is the system by which coal is transported from source to destination. Q:What is covered in Offsitewith reference to power plant? Q:how coal is transported from track hopper to furnace? Q:What is size of the coal after crushing? Q:How coal is taken from pulverizer to furnace? Q:Why DM water is used in power plant? Q:What is the reason of dispute between CIL and NTPC ltd heard in news recently? Q:How much coal is stored in yard? Q:What is the rating of diesel engine power plant. Q:Why HFO is used in power plant? Q:You are from IIT Roorkee.How old is your college. Q:What was it known as at that time? Q:Do you still find things that belong to that time. Q:Do you attend any coaching for this examination? Yes, I took at Engineers Institute of India-EII Q:You are working with NTPC ltd and also getting a handsome salary. Why do you want to join IES? I gave almost satisfied answer to most of the questions.

Tips: Be prepared on everything written on your summary sheet-DAF.
