System Features
1.
Distributed structure
The distributed structure allows multiple functional entities that are identical in a system to work in load-sharing mode to accomplish a function.

Functional Structure
Logically, HLR9820 consists of the front end (FE) and back end (BE). The FE processes protocols and services. The BE stores, queries, and manages subscriber data. In terms of functions, the UIM consists of five functional subsystems, the signaling processing subsystem, the subscriber data management subsystem, the data service subsystem, the data storage subsystem, and the O&M subsystem.

O&M Subsystem
The functions of the O&M subsystem are implemented by OMU boards. Typically, a pair of OMU boards is configured in slots 0 and 2 in the basic subrack. The two OMU boards work in active/standby mode. Active and standby OMU boards periodically send heartbeat messages to each other to notify their peer nodes of their current state. If the FE and BE are deployed in integrated mode, the FE and BE are managed by the same O&M subsystem. If the FE and BE are deployed in separate mode, the FE and BE are managed by different O&M subsystems. OMU boards are physically deployed on UPBA2/UPBA6 boards.
