Association of Food Journalist and New York time: Anonymous and payment

Should food critic and review be anonymous? They are not spies or James bond but they are food critic that even makes all calmest chef and restaurant establishment shake and scared. One words for critic from them will strike and maybe make them fall and fear to the death. The problem is should the food critic be an anonymous or should their identity be exposed to the public? Anonymous food critic means by that their identity is unknown or cant be identified by the restaurant establishment. According to the Association of Food Journalist (AFJ) and New York Times, food critic must be anonymous or hide their identity. Food or restaurant review must be conduct anonymously as possible by the food critic. This is to make sure that they can experience the real environment of the restaurant just as ordinary customers. So from these activities the food critic can feel the real situation of the restaurant, either foods, restaurant ambiences, services, prices or more. If the restaurant known the anonymous as food critic or the anonymous exposed themselves as food critic, the restaurant might prepared their restaurant, foods and services as good as possible. Besides that, when the restaurant had fully prepared, the food critic might be cant judge the restaurant correctly because they didnt know the truth of the restaurant. When the food critics are an anonymous they need to have a multiple visit to the restaurant with different times. This is because, each day of restaurants will have different situation such as critical time, breakfast time, lunch time, or dinner time. Some of the restaurant might have a lot of customers in certain time. As example, when come to holiday, the family might want to have a dine at outside to spend their value time with the beloved family. This may cause a restaurant get critical time if the restaurant is full of big family. The anonymous should see how the restaurant can manage if the restaurant is in busy condition. Could they manage it or not? A good restaurant with a good management always can maintain their service whether in critical time or normal time. Multiple visit give the food critics to more understand about the restaurant and it can help the food critic to make review.

Nowadays, things are changing quickly. On the rise is a new kind of dining journalism tapping into the community. Most of food critic is now become less anonymous and most of them start to become a public figure so their identities already exposed. In the past food critic is anonymous, they had a power to make or break a chef and lose down a restaurant with a flick of a pen. Because of their present is unknown, the restaurant will served them or treat them just same as other customers. So they can judge the restaurant according to the truth situation. But nowadays, most food critics already exposed their self to the public and in the current age of digital media, sometimes they need to interview chefs for blog, take pictures, and ideally be on television or at least in online videos. Because of this, it will expose the food critic to the public and this will cause the food critics doesnt become anonymous anymore. Does food critics should pay for their meals or not? According to the Association of Food Journalism (AFJ), the food critics should pay full for all foods and services. Beside that, they should avoid from accepting any free meals or use any free gift certificate that being given by the restaurants. Why they need to pay? This is because by paying the foods and services the food critics can give a real review about the price of the restaurant. Is it the price that he or she paid is suitable with the services and foods that they served? Sometimes, if they get free meals or free of charge for the meals, they cant evaluate either the price that they offered is right or suitable with the foods or services. Some of foods critics will use the price offered as one of the part in their writing to evaluate or give review about the restaurant. But if they still get free foods or meal, they must ask the restaurant to put the price on the bill for references or evidence. Most of wellknown food critics or non-anonymous food critics, the restaurant owner will give free of charge for them and sometimes they will send out complimentary courses, or tastes, or alcoholic beverages, either to provide a bigger picture or to flavour the review, so the food critic will give a good reviews to the restaurants. So when the review about the price is fake or wrong, the customer will get the wrong information and they might blame the food writer or critic because give wrong information and review. Moreover, mostly the money for the payment be given or support by the publisher company.

Conclusion Food critic must be staying on anonymous, so their activities or movement cant be seeing and smell by any food establishment to delivered the truth behind every single of restaurant. By be anonymous all activities will be run smoothly and they can work undercover, without the restaurant knowing. So the food writer can experience the real situation and act as a spy in this industry. Other than that, the food critic should pay for their meals so they can get the real review about the price that being offered by the restaurant and give the information to the readers and peoples. So the conclusion is, the food critic or writer must be anonymous and do a payment for their meals.
