Kyle Koerber Production Book: Docucomics 5/22/2013

Objectives: The inspiration for the direction I wanted to take this comic came after project Thizbee mentions that her personal favorite comic was Love and Rockets.

the interview with Thizbee. After the official interview she and I were discussing the Taking that into consideration I also wanted to push myself to making a comic that life comic intermixed with clear design choices presents a much stronger piece

had panels and composition as an intentional goal. I believe that making a slice ofemotionally. Going on with love and rockets I also wanted to make this an exercise in using traditional media tools to produce a comic. All of my other projects have art tools. mostly been digital, which isnt inherently wrong but I need practice with traditional

Summary: In the start of the comic we have the author sitting in a restaurant wating for the interview subject (Thizbee) to walk on in. First page lays the topic were covering and introduces Thizbee who is the only character with color. Second page her point. The comic ends with Thizbee saying that she is happy with her untraditional lifestyle.

Reaction: I can honestly say Im happy with how the comic came out despite it being a little less ambitious then I initially planned. At the start I was hoping to incorporate ink and red coloring into the comics, however after a test page I decided that red color pencil was not a great compliment for black ink. But I can look at these pages tenderly and say that despite the crudeness about them there is a solid layer of thought put into them. I think the borders also give the whole project a really solid feeling.

Identity: I wanted to say that this is the first time Ive ever really drawn a personal friend of mine, shining a little spotlight into their life. Its thrilling and scary, to put break out a pencil and just draw. your work out there and hope people dont mistake it for shoddy work. Its nice to

OBJECTIVES: I honestly believed that doing remix comics was an exercise in remix culture by using a sort of found footage/ready made method that involved comics. By getting people to think about paneling and composition while at the same time forcing them to cleverly design dialog such that it fits with their own overall narrative. Its an easy way to get people to hit the ground running in terms of making comics. My objective was to experiment with a panel flow and design, to see if my skills in photshop and illustratotr will help me with this class.

first was to replicate the collage techniques of artist in the past, specifically marvel comic artist jack Kirby, and the second was to attempt to frame this work in the idea of a meme, which has been particularly popular in internet culture the last remix comic was born( the remix age: mans infatuation with the meme and the machine). context of remix culture. The easiest way to go through remix culture is to use the decade. Hence with both goals in mind the Kirby inspired over the top title for this

Reaction: I was surprisingly happy with how the final piece looked , initially I was worried that the panel flow and direction was too awkward for the human eye to

how do they change people, As a ICAM major its what we do. But living in this world consuming, for more often then not things on the net are blatantly plagiarized. This is not what remix culture stands for but its the reality of the situation where content creators have their work reposted, remixed, reblogged in such a way that how the digital age basically recycles content. How old comics and cartoons are again or prehapse become exposed for something for the first time, Im always interested in that.

MATERIALS; besides the standard photoshop/old comics I have scanned a few old comic that in my possession Shatter and Rom the Space Knight respectively. I also took the time to do research on the collages that Jack Kirby did, those discussions were particularly enlightening and invigorating to read. http://www.salon.com/2012/04/27/comic_collages_in_context/

Summary: the main character Bryan is kidnapped by a costumed figure known as triangle man, who plans on shooting Bryan to free him from his addiction to constant entertainment ranging from comics to videogames. Triangle man shoots goes on to invent several items including a dream time travel machine, the story was the idea of giving your future self a chance to live by doing work and not be

Bryan. Bryan is then awake as if the previous events were a bad dream, Bryan later heavily implies that older Bryan is the triangle man. What I was shooting for in here

distracted by several things at once. Not everyone has their own dream future selves remind them to work hard but I think its an important reminder that you do yourself a favor by getting work finished.

Influences: When I came up with the initial idea of what I wanted to do for the

webcomic I was, at the time, in a bit of a mood since I was noticing that I was getting distracted by websites and games rather than getting work done, which would lead to restless nights and frustration. I wanted to make a story that would resolve my my own future dream self shoot me in the head. The artwork and paneling was taken from two different mangas, Jojos bizarre adventure and parasite Materials :pen, pencil , paper, ruler, scanner, blambbot font inner frustration and serve as a reminder that if I dont get work done I might have

Note about the artwork: I particularly barrowed a lot of visual cues from the two manga mentioned above because I believed that adding speedlines and cross hatching the background gave an eerie texture to an already creepy situation.

Production Book : Zine Assignment

Making a zine was a quick and dirty way to do magazine design and production. It

was quick hands on method of making original printed content. I wanted to that I had in my head.

Distribution 1: I went over to UCSD RPG club and handed the zine over to my friend Jeff. Jeff had a good laugh at the whole thing which was what I was suspecting.

Distribution 2: Personally I scanned my zine and posted the whole thing on tumblr, no offense to printed zines but they never really attracted my eye. Only high quality zines talking about local joints captured my interest but for myself it would be better to post this information online. But if I were limited to distributing physical copies then I would either distribute to lestates in university height(a excellent 24/7 coffee shop with a zine selection) or Materials: googling Charles barkely English to Japanese translator photoshop comickazi(comic book shop that allows zines).
