Settle The New Planet
Number of Teams & Group Size: Minimum 3 people per group Maximum 7 people per group
Preparation & Set-Up: Ensure sufficient work sheets and pens / pencils for every participant. Distribute the work sheets.
Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Instruct participants to carefully read the case study on the work sheet. 2. Inform participants that they are to individually decide on which person they wish to bring to the new planet. No discussions are allowed. 3. Allow participants some time to make their choices (~ 5 minutes). Then ask them to discuss as a group, to develop and agree upon a group choice for the people they wish to bring to the new planet. Allow them some more time to discuss (~ 5 - 10 minutes). 4. Call time, and ask each group to present their choices, as well as the reasoning for making those choices. 5. Note the sharing of participants for the debrief later.
Specific Rules: 1. Participants are to decide on which person to bring along to settle the new planet. 2. Participants are to develop their own individual choices. Once completed, they are to develop and agree upon a group choice.
Variations: 1. Assign each participant a role, and have them discuss as 1 big group who to bring along to settle the new planet.

Facilitator Notes: Be careful not to reveal what you think, as this would influence their judgement. However, you may reveal your thoughts AFTER the activity has concluded and you have completed the debrief.
