Unit Design in Science 4 First Term


Title of the Unit: Ideas and Evidences in Science Subject Area: Science Developed/ Prepared by: Kristiane R. De Villa
Unit Summary This unit is about the nature, limitations and importance of Science and Technology. This will also deal with different branches of science and the contribution of scientists to the community, how scientist worked to come up with a discovery and how evidence and creative thought helped in the development of scientific ideas.

Level: Grade 4 Time Frame: 9 days Term: First Term

Stage 1: Identify Desired Result/s


Standards: 1. To describe how different branches of Science may be interrelated. 2. About the ways in which scientist work today and how they worked in the past, including the roles of experimentation, evidence and creative thought in the development of scientific ideas. 3. To recognize that the products of science are the tested data collected by scientists for centuries and explain with examples on how people working in science have formulated concepts, principles and theories. 4. To develop an awareness of the limitations of Science and Technology in solving societal problems. 5. That science is about thinking creatively to try to explain how living and non-living things work, and to establish links between causes and effects. 6. That it is important to test ideas using evidence from observation and measurement. Enduring Understanding/s: 1. Science makes life and work easier. 2. Scientific ideas are not always absolute; it may change over time. 3. Science can creatively explain how things happen in this world. 4. Like humans, Science has also limitations. 5. Scientific discipline governs other fields. 6. Scientists never give up to come up with their discovery/ invention. 7. Every scientific idea is subjected to studying testing and experimenting. Each group will create and present an information commercial (Infomercial) about the importance of Science and Technology, how science is important in the society and the impact of Scientists works in our live.
