"Everything Is Predetermined" Einstein and Ramana Maharshi - Gary Weber Uploaded on Dec 21, 2010 Both Einstein and

Ramana Maharshi made almost identical statements that "everyth ing is predetermined". Nobel Laureates Eugene Wigner and Francis Crick (co-disco verer of DNA) made similar statements. The ground-breaking experimental work of Libet and many contemporary cognitive neuroscientists support these statements. This is the first part of a presentation at the Science and Non-Duality Conferen ce in San Rafael, CA in October 2009. The second part is covered in the video "I ntelligence Choice is Impossible"; the third and last part is covered in "You Ar e Not In Control". There is a new video "Predestination, free will, control and the illusion of tim e" which explains much on these concepts. Gary Weber 1 month ago Hi tammy lind. i really have no sense of being ultimately responsible for any of this, really. It is all the Universe's/Her doing, all of it. She is all pieces and parts of it, the actors, the stage, the audience, the play, the director, et c. The amazing thing for "me" was that when i fully understood/realized this and just? completely and deeply surrendered, that everything was seen to have alway s been perfect, and i never was in charge, nor needed to believe that i was. sti llness. Gary Weber 2 days ago Yes, it is all predetermined, including everything that led to the fight, and wh y/how this particular fight got "out of control", rather than just ending. It is also predetermined whether he will get life, or not and that depends on the jur y, judge and attorneys that happen to be selected/manifest and everything in the ir lives, and how they feel during the trial, which is also predetermined and ou t? of your friend's and anybody else's control. It is complex and highly interco nnected. at4101 2 days ago I've always felt the same way, but it's difficult to talk to about it with other s as so many people believe in coincidence and " free? will." Thanks Gary! I'm s ubscribing!

at4101 2 days ago Wow, very interesting. I ask because a childhood friend we haven't seen in years is currently in jail for murder, and he is one person you would never imagined ever being involved in something like that. As the story unfolds in the news, it seems as if it was a fight that got out of control--so in other? words NOT prem editated--which is why I was curious about that particular topic. Also, so I ass ume it's already predetermined whether people will end up in prison for life or not? Gary Weber 2 days ago Hi at4101. Yes, even? murder is predetermined. If you look carefully at the comp lex stories around murders, you will see that they are the result of many factor s and events which were out of the control of those involved. It includes genes, friends, family, culture, and perhaps brain chemistry or structure. Recent stud ies showed that serial killers have an under-developed region of their brain lin ked to emotion, the amygdala. This is not an "excuse" for murder just better und erstanding. at4101 2 days ago What about murder? So the person that murders another--this has already been? pr edetermined? There is no good answer to that question, as we really don't know the "purpose" of the Universe. If we assume that the all pervading Universal Field that we kno w from our current physics is "conscious" and "intelligent", it may be that "It/ She" has manifested us, with our abilities to perceive and act, so that She can learn about Herself in all these manifold forms. That? would explain a lot, but it may be completely incorrect. peace, love and stillness. OmegasisGuyver 1 week ago i? think i understand, but i still have one more question, if thats the case the n why do we perceive things? i mean if we cant really change our destiny then wh y are we even aware of it? thank you for being so thoughtful Gary. It also works around the idea that it is pretty obvious to everyone that some things are out of our control. The important aspec t is that we never know when something that we do will be enormously important t o someone else far distant in time and space. This is an intimately connected Un iverse in which everyone? participates; no one can step out to the side and chan ge the flow of things. That's why "everything is predetermined", no matter how a pparently small. i actually think i get it. when we see stuff happen there is nothing that can ch ange whatever is happening, and when whatever happening changes that that is par t of the unchangeable flow of the cosmos, so we kind of just observe? things am i along the lines here? Reply in reply to Gary Weber (Show the comment) RemoveReport profile imageFlag for spamBlock UserUnblock User Gary Weber 2 weeks ago Hi OmegasisGuyver. No,? there's no such thing as free will, there is just the "f eeling" of it which we developed for some reason. we have much, much cognitive n euroscience when demonstrates that there is no real "I" (which developed about 7 5,000 yrs ago), and that actions are in progress before we have any knowledge of them, let alone choice. It was a big surprise for me, but when "I" fell away, i t was obvious that was the case.

================= Predestination, control, free will and the illusion of time 954 views 2 months ago Gary Weber and Rich Doyle discuss predestination, the illusion of control, free will and the illusion of time. The possibility of the Universal Field being the all-pervasive, matter-creating Higgs field is discussed as well as whether it mi ght be "self-aware". Living "in the now" realizing that "everything is One" remo ves the sense of time, control, free will or predestination.

==================================================================== 1. Everything Is Predetermined : Albert Einstein (and his friends) and Ramana Mahar shi Gary Weber, Ph. D. 3. Can Physics Explain Consciousness? Eugene Wigner : Physics can t even prove phys ics "It was not possible to formulate the laws (of quantum theory) in a fully con sistent way without reference to consciousness." In The Unreasonable Effectivene ss of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences, the mathematical formulation of the ph ysicist s often crude experience leads in an uncanny number of cases to an amazing ly accurate description of a large class of phenomena." Biology and cognition co uld be the origin of physical concepts, as we humans perceive them that mathematic s and physics were so well matched, seemed "unreasonable hard to explain otherwise Wh at can be logically deduced about free will, choice, karma/sin, and knowing the outcomes and sources of our actions from our current scientific understanding? 4. Is Predetermination Scientifically Reasonable? Benjamin Libet UCSF 1983 Parti cipants Watched a clock and noted precisely when they decided to flex their wris t Noted when the movement actually occurred The intention to move occurred 200 m illiseconds before movement actually began. Electrodes placed over the motor con trol areas of the brain recorded when the brain had begun initiating the movemen t. Electrical activity of the muscles involved in the wrist movement determined precisely when muscle movement began. Brain activity to initiate movement starte d about 550 milliseconds before the action began. However, participants were onl y aware of the intention to move 200 milliseconds before it occurred. The brain had initiated the movement before the participant was even aware of it.

5. Movement Initiated < Awareness of the Movement 6. But What About Deciding Something In Those 200ms? Strawson (1994) At birth, o ne s thoughts, feelings and behaviors are determined by genetics, prenatal learnin g and environment. Subsequent thoughts, feelings and behaviors are built on that foundation decisions and choices are a result of accumulated experience, as mod ulated by genetic factors If one tries to change oneself, those goals and method s are determined by genes, etc. what one can be is determined by what one alread y is Time to veto conveys no more free will than the time between putting eggs on waiting for them to fry provides the eggs with the opportunity not to cook 7. The Growing Case for Genetic Causation Francis Crick - You, your joys and your sorrows, your memories and your ambitions, your sense of personal identity and free will, are in fact no more than the behavior of a vast assembly of nerve cel ls and their associated molecules Functional DNA polymorphism in DRD4, MAO-A and 5HT genes linked to pathological gambling; FAAH gene w/385A allele damps fear circ uitry and intensifies reaction to making money A DRD2 gene allele can intensify responses to gambles Harvard and UCSD studies found that genes may be 46% respon sible for how popular and how connected we are MSU study showed that a mutation in serotonin receptor gene 5-HT2A is linked to a variation in popularity Two NEJM studies found binge eating strongly associated to melanocortin 4-receptor which makes appetite controlling protein. All people with broken gene were binge eater s. 8. Recent Work On Individual Neurons Hint At Biology of Thought 9. Contemporary Extensions of Libet s Work Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, (Bha ttachcarya and Sheth, 2009) More complex thought processes - looking at aha/Eurek a insights, when they are known and where they come from Simple, practical proble ms, not well known w/o a linear, methodical solution EEG predicted who would hav e the insight by different brainwave activity in right frontal cortex up to 8 se conds before the insight was realized Conscious thought does not solve problems U nconscious processing delivers the solution when it has been worked out 10. Modern Complex Systems (Chaos) Theory An MIT meteorologist (Edward Lorenz) w as conducting a computer modeling experiment. To save time he restarted his huge program in the middle of a run with his printout data which rounded variables t o 3-digits, while his computer worked with 6-digit precision. Surprisingly, the result for the entire weather system changed dramatically. A new mathematical ap proach developed which focused on the impact of small, seemingly insignificant c hanges on the behavior of large complex dynamic systems Used in mathematics, top ology, physics, population biology, biology, meteorology, astrophysics, informat ion theory, cardiac cycles, war, etc. The metaphor is of a butterfly flapping it s wings causing a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. 11. Complex Systems Theory Applied to Intelligent Choice and Free Will Complex Syste ms Mathematics observes: Situations are less predictable further from the initia l conditions. Complex interacting systems undergoing change (our lives) are unpr edictable. All parts of the system affect, and are affected by, many other parts of the system in a complex web of cause and effect and feedback. Predictions ba sed on linear logic (a > b > c) do not work. Completely unpredictable results ca n emerge even if the original conditions are known in great detail. With all the interactions and feedback, huge amounts of knowledge are required that cannot b

e collected and assembled in time for even one simple decision. The human mind i s suited for simple situations using simple logic. Short-term memory holds about seven pieces of information at a time inadequate for today s complex, interconnect ed world. This inability of our minds to generate reliable decisions gives us gr eat discomfort, uncertainty and fear. 12. You are NOT in control It is impossible to know the ultimate outcomes of any of my actions and who they will affect, or how the current situation came to be. What if a small change happened in your great-great-great-great grandmother s life ? Would you be here today in this room? Were you in control and knowledgeable of e verything surrounding the most important decision in your life including all of its subsequent implications? 13. Even Simple Interactions Are Massively Complex 14. Games Demonstrate The Hopelessness of Our Situation In chessworld Only two fam ilies each with father, mother, three sets of older twins and eight younger chil dren. Only limited and prescribed movement is possible. Each person can only be in one of about 60 adjacent houses. If someone moves into a house occupied by a member of the other family, the only possible outcome is that the current occupa nt dies. Everyone moves alternatively by family until one family is gone. Clearl y a much, much simpler and less populous world than we occupy. Possible differen t sequences of interactions of those two families is 1 followed by 123 zeroes (S hannon number). An estimate of the number of particles in the known universe is 1 followed by 79 zeroes (+/- a few zeroes). Why do we believe that we can predic t who and what will be affected by our actions in our vastly more complex world?

15. The Bhagavad Gita Strikes A Similar Tone And even if, clinging to the I-sens e, you say that you will not fight, your intention will be in vain; Nature will compel you to act. Even the wise man acts in accordance with his inner nature. A ll beings follow their nature. What good can repression do? No one, not even for an instant, can exist without acting, all beings are compelled, however unwilli ng, by the three strands of Nature called gunas. 16. You Are Not In Control If everyone has free will and is in control , how does tha t work for 6,800,000,000 people? What if 100,000 people want the same item? What if ten people want different results from a situation and they are from four di fferent religions? How does the bookkeeping work of all results of all behaviors o f 6,800,000,000 people, 16 hrs/day for their lives on everyone else? Who keeps t rack of all of this karma and sin? 17. What Is This I 18. How Does An 19. How Does An 20. How Does An That Makes These Choices and Has This Sin/Karma?

22. If Everything Is Predetermined Where Does That Leave You ? Surprisingly, living in the moment, accepting whatever unfolds, just as it is, whatever it is Beyond the reaches of recursive, compulsive, confused thought Fully present and active in the world , without regret, second-judgments, or hidden agendas Functioning at a higher, more creative level without the interference of constant background/fo reground thinking 24. An Aha Problem The Problem Three story house. Three light switches on the grou nd floor. Two switches do not work. One switch turns on a incandescent light bul b on the second floor. The light and all three switches are off. You may flip th e light switches as much as you want, but you may only go up to the second floor once to check the light bulb. How do you determine which switch works? The Answ er: Switch one light switch (a) on for several minutes. Then switch it off and s witch another one (b) on. Then immediately go upstairs. If the light is on, swit ch (b) turned it on. If the light is not on, feel the bulb. If it is hot, then s witch (a) turned it on. If it is cold, switch (c) would turn it on. http://www.scribd.com/doc/113131786/Happiness-Beyond-Thought-A-Practical-Guide-t o-Awakening
