SOUNDBITE: , Haji Ssebi, Senior Political Affairs Officer: This is going to be the first workshop we are going to conduct, but we believe after here we are going to conduct another workshop with the ministry of interior in order to copy the cycle and then another workshop is going to be with the local government so that we can be able to close all the institutions that are concerned with both security and local government right from the center up to the local government. In that way we shall be able to complete effort on a mandate of supporting the institutions of governance. 12. STORY: A workshop on local administration, security and governance for Somali legislators today kicked off today June 20 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The 4-day workshop organized by AMISOMs Political Unit was officially opened by the African Union Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif. The workshop will be attended by members of parliament from the Committee on National Security, Interior and Governance, their administrative staff and other members of the House. It is intended to give the committee members an overview of the key concepts to enhance their oversight role. We came here for a seminar which is focusing on empowerment of the parliamentary commissions for the governance, we are learning how we can face one of the standing issues, we are benefiting from the foreign experts and the Ugandan MPs, we share ideas and they will increase us what they can teach us. As part of AMISOMs mandate to assist the Federal Government of Somalia in establishing effective and legitimate governance, this workshop will provide technical knowhow to the legislators as they will be taken through the concepts of national security, local administration and federalism drawing from lessons learnt and global best practices.
