APPROACH TO WORKS As the project calls for a construction of a hawker centre and market in one roof in Bukit Panjang Town, best to know what the term means locally. The best translation of the Word Bukit Panjang is a spread of hill, meaning a long spread of hilly place By gathering information on the towns historical aspects, identity, and topography, the structure to be built shall incorporate its unique characteristics into the design with the fusion of its original topography and meeting the modern days design aspects. Not to alter any of its existing contours but rather use it as the primary basis in designing and constructing the new modern Hawker Centre & Market. With the structure to be built equipped with2 levels of basement parking space, contiguous bored pile shall be erected to some portions of the perimeter area specially on the rear side of the structure adjacent to the existing HDB Block (Blk. 259). With the contiguous bored piling completed it is more convenient and faster to construct the 2 level basements by way of open cut method. Given the proximity of the project site to the existing neighborhood, careful planning shall be implemented to minimize nuisance cause by the construction activities to nearby residential areas and other adjacent buildings. It is best to note that noise and dust generated to the surrounding areas during the construction period shall be eliminated or keep at minimal and acceptable level at all times. With this in mind certain, approach and/or special devices shall be undertaken and implemented on site, which might affect the speed and progress of actual work. This obstacles and scenarios shall be addressed prior to the start of work and proposals and approvals of submitted approach shall be taken as always a priority. The new Hawker Centre & Market will be an additional representation of Bukit Panjangs identity hence its architectural design best represents its hilly landscape and are planned to follow closely the original existing contours of the place. There will be a sky farm at the roof top to put to life the old kampong days where people are growing their own vegetables and fruits. The roof contoured design which is made from modular decorative aluminum panel materials will be an eco-friendly roof which could easily harvest cool air necessary when growing vegetables. It is equipped with irrigation recyclable system to collect rainwater to be used in watering of plants. External faade and other roof areas are designed for planting turfs and other type of plants, this will also doubles as thermal mass to help in cooling the entire building. The construction and completion of this modern Hawker Centre & Market will truly represent the icon of Bukit Panjang.
