Competition seeks out high-flying photographers

n artists retreat in Sudbury has launched its first project with artist Andrew Cross on the subject of aeronautics in the Suffolk landscape. Alongside the project, Ballingdon Mill, in association with Jessops and the East Anglian Daily Times, has launched an open photography competition with a similar theme called Aeronautics in East Anglia. Thanks to its flat landscape and proximity to Europe, East Anglia became home to a large number of wartime military airbases, some remaining operational throughout the Cold War. Today, Luton and Stansted are major airports, while Wattisham Airfield is a major centre for Army helicopter flight. East Anglia also has illustrious links with technical developments including the parachute, radar and jet engine, which were all developed in the region. and development of aeronautics have touched the East Anglian landscape. Competition judge Royal Academy curator Ann Dumas added: I will be looking for a sense of the drama of the subject and the atmosphere of the place. The Prize The 2013 Jessops EADT Ballingdon Mill Prize is a Canon EOS60D 18135mm, worth 799, which delivers great results. With an 18 megapixel resolution, it offers large files that are rich in detail and natural colour with a max ISO 6400 sensitivity and 5.3fps continuous shooting.
