Decisions for Christ

Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

June 22 & 23

Worship Attendance

Volunteers Needed
This September, we are launching a new plan for our student choirs and we need adult volunteers. If you have a heart for students and have experience in creative arts, drama, music, or other presentation skills (illusions, martial arts, drawing/painting, etc.), we would love to talk with you. Please email Jasmine Tyner at jtyner@ fbcn.org or call 596-8600 x226. Our New Member Ministry is growing at a steady rate. Weve seen many people become members, get baptized, and make decisions for Christ. We need more volunteers (both men and women) to come alongside our Director of New Member Ministry, Lou Falorio, to assist with phone calls, outreach, and ministering to those who visit our church, prospects, and new members. For more information on how to get involved, please call Lou at 596-8600 x258.

The Fourth Stanza

Most Americans have some knowledge of our National Anthem, yet rarely hear or learn the fourth stanza: And conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto, in God is our trust. As we come to celebrate Independence Day this week, we must confess that our nation has moved away from reliance and dependence on God. On June 25, 1962, the Supreme Court ruled in the Engle vs. Vitale case, disallowing students to use the following simple prayer in public schools: Almighty God, we acknowledge Dr. Hayes Wicker our dependence upon Thee and beg Thy blessing on us, our parents, our teachers, and our country. In the case removing Senior Pastor voluntary student prayer, without any previous precedent, either legal or historical, we turned a corner. It could be that God began to remove His hedge of protection around America. After 1962, violent crime rose 332% in twenty years. A Department of Labor study compared productivity among twelve manufacturing countries and revealed that the U.S. showed the largest decline of those nations, beginning in 1962. The first decade of 2000 was marked by attempts to have In God We Trust removed from our coins and the phrase Under God removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. We dared God to do something about it, and He has! We have seen attacks of terrorism, a disintegration of morals in the White House, widespread immorality, a major economic recession, and loss of wealth, jobs, and homes. I could say much more. We will not trust in God because we are wise in our own eyes (Isaiah 5:21). Egotistical, radical individualism has greater weight in the minds of most people than absolute truth. In fact, there is no absolute authority to appeal to or standards to adhere to. People no longer claim that one opinion is more valid than another opinion if it relates to truth; unless, of course, it is your opinion and that of your political party! We have fallen into the folly described in the book of Judges: Every man did what was right in his own eyes (Judges 21:25). During a meeting of college educators at Harvard in 1987, President Frank Rhodes of Cornell was discussing educational reforms, suggesting that it was time for universities to give real and sustained attention to students intellectual and moral well-being. One student stood and demanded, Who is going to do the instructing? Whose morality are we going to follow? The young audience applauded wildly, indicating that the issue was settled. It was supposedly an unanswerable question. Rhodes sat down, unable to respond. That is when I wish that President George Washington would come back from his time in Heaven just for a few minutes and remind us of his Farewell Address to the nation, It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. Of course, we dont need him to tell us what the Bible has already clearly stated from beginning to end. God is the source of truth. Speaking of this once again is indeed a just cause.
