II. COMPETITION REGULATIONS FOR PRESENTLY PASSIVE DISCIPLINES: * CARIBBEAN

Dance types:
Bachata, Cuban Salsa, Puertorican Salsa. In case of nomination arriving in these, the competitions are organized separately in the different dance types as listed.

Music:
Characteristic caribic music for each type. For salsa the music speed is from 192 to 208 bpm.

Description:
Separately developed characteristic caribic couple dances with own features. Each are based on the latin style. These dances were developed from the Latin-American origin and in the last two decades, they were forming their final version. The Cuban salsa is a more rotating version. The Puertorican Salsa is also called as street mambo indicating the close relationship to other latin dances. Salsa is a very popular and free dance often including some steps from other latin dances. Bachata is formed in the Dominikan Republic. It is representing bitterness (this is the maning of the word), and talks about heartbreak and sadness. The bachata is based on merengue.

Characteristics:
The characteristic salsa basis step is a two-times three-step pattern made during 8 beats of music in a quick, quick, slow-quick, quick, slow rhytm. It is also allowed to break the beat, but in that case the breaks should be consistently repeated. This is an erotic, spicy dance with humour and much freedom. Low lifts are also allowed. The basic footwork of bachata is a series of simple steps that produce a back and forth or sidewards motion. The scheme of the steps is as follows: starting with right, chasse to the right while counting 1,2,3. On 4 put the left toe beside the right foot. This can be ornamented with a jerk of the hip. Then the same with left foot. The character is given by sensual hip and body movements.

Elements:
The characteristic latin hip-movement, the characteristic salsa steps, the characteristic mambo steps. For bachata, a hold with the above described steps series. Time durations: COUPLE 130-200 SMALL GROUP

* TWIST

Music:
The federation music used for preliminary and semi-final rounds is a continuous mix of the characteristic musics for the historical period of sixties when twist was a very popular dance. Music speed is 48-50 bars/minute. In finals, own music of similar characteristics should be used within this speed range. Description: The twist is one of the dances developed during the rock-pop progress from late fifties to the end of sixties. It is considered to be a very popular trend in streetswings dances. The couple dance was originally danced in late fifties as a show by dance bands in Georgia, then in 1960, Chubby Checkers made his twist record and made twist famous. The dance includes a twisting motion back and forth with the hips, the twisting of the foots without a progress and an accompanied synchronous arm and shoulder movement. The dancer mostly just stands on one place, makes the twisting motion in a wave through the body and accompanies this with lifting of one leg, tilting frontweards and backwards, low liftings and even some acrobatics with the partner in the couple.

Characteristics:
The dance is characterized by the minimum progress, staying on one place, the twisting of the hips and the synchronized ornamentic movements of the legs, arms, combined with tilts and jumps.

Time durations:
COUPLE (adults and juniors only) 130-145 federal music in preliminaries Own music in finals FORMATION (adults only) 230-300 + intro 100 and exit 30 if desired.
