BOSTON WHY?

PAUL MCCARTNEY, MUMFORD AND SONS, AND OTHERS TO PERFORM AT BONNAROO

By Michael Tipper One of the entertainment industrys biggest performers has been announced as an act of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. On Tuesday February 19, it was announced that Paul McCartney would be headlining the four day festival along with artists such as Mumford and Sons, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, R. Kelly, ZZ Top and others. This years headliner is the Englishman Paul McCartney. McCartney is known for being the founding member of the 1960s English rock band, the Beatles. After the band split up, he has enjoyed a highly successful solo career and formed his own band called Wings. Many of his hits, (Live and Let Die and Maybe Im Amazed just to name a couple), had been in the top 40 in charts around the world. He also headlined the Super Bowl XXXVI halftime show in 2005. Another big act performing at the festival is English folk rock band Mumford and Sons. Gaining popularity in 2010, Mumford and Sons style incorporates elements of folk rock, indie rock, bluegrass, and alternative rock into their music. Their single, I Will Wait, is their highest charting song, reaching number 12 on the U.S. Charts. What makes this band unique is their ability to play multiple instruments during their live performances. As in past years, this years Bonnaroo is packed with many big name performers. Two of the biggest musician to come across the pond will play at the Tennessee festival.

NOWHERE TO RUN?
Monday afternoon April, 15 the United States was once again grieve-stricken and shocked by tragedy. With runners crossing the finish line of the Boston Marathon, two explosions rattled the nearby area causing several injuries including three fatalities. People at the scene describe the bombing as feeling like shock waves. The horrific attack has sparked view points from several angles. If runners arent safe at a family-friendly environment, just where can one go? Does every large crowd or event need high security? What also isnt clear is who and why it was done. It doesnt look to be an act of terrorism, but the FBI (who has taken over the investigation) will sort that out. According to multiple news reports, a suspect has been identified but not yet arrested. Although this was a horrendous act, it was likely by one man or a select group. The world is not evil. People come together and prove to be resilient in tough times.
News Update: 4/22: Friday April 19th Police identified two suspects from images taken at the Marathon as possible bombers. During a pursuit on Thursday, one, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26 was shot and killed and was also accused of killing an MIT policeman. His 19 year old brother, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, was captured after sustaining massive injuries in a firefight with police. A huge manhunt to capture the young suspect united the city. As of Monday, the suspect, possibly influenced by Muslim terrorist orgs in Chechnya was unable to speak, but was communicating via written notes to investigators. Apparently the two men were from Chechnya, a volatile and war stricken Southern province in Russia. Though both were good students and had lived in the US for years they had grown interested in their Muslim faith and had become increasingly disenchanted with American life. Bostonians celebrated the capture Sunday by a massive turn out at the Red Sox game.

There is a piece of Boston in me. Every one of us stands with you. -Barack Obama

Drafting A New Start By David Holbrook

April 25th is an exciting day for die hard pro football fans. On April 25th ,at 7pm central time, the NFL draft begins. The draft brings hope for struggling teams. They hope to draft that one special player that maybe, just maybe will turn that team around. For readers unfamiliar with the NFL draft here is a quick rundown of how it works. In the draft teams pick players who are finished at the college level. There are seven rounds of 32 picks. The draft order is decided by the teams records from the previous season. This year it will start with the Chiefs and go in order until it reaches last year's champion, the Ravens. One of the most fun aspects of the draft is trying to guess what each one of the teams will, or should take. It's always a blast to sit in front of the TV and pretend you know more than the General Manager of your favorite team. Because we always know what's best for our team and they just always get it wrong! During the draft teams are allowed to trade draft picks from this and future drafts. This adds to the excitement tremendously! You never know if a team might trade up and take the player you wanted! What I like most about the draft though are the underdog success stories. Every year there are several players that don't get drafted until later in the draft or sometimes ever get drafted at all. I always love it when a player teams passed over winds up having a great career as a walk on to a team. This year's draft should add some extra excitement locally. A few prominent local players are projected to be taken in this years draft. Justin Hunter a wide receiver from UT, Cordarrelle Patterson also a wide receiver from UT, Tyler Bray a quarterback from UT, and Jordan Rodgers a quarterback from Vanderbilt are expected to be drafted. The class of players for this year's draft seem especially deep. This should lead to a flurry of trades and unexpected picks, which will make the draft all the more exciting. I look forward with great anticipation to watching the draft and if you've never watched it try it out this year!

Lifestyles of the Rich Who Have too Much Money and Dont Know What to do With It?

It has been said that money makes the world go round. It has also been said that the love of money is the root of all evil. Whatever our beliefs about money are, the truth of the matter is that we need it to survive. Even if we are Frugal McDoogal we still need a few bills to buy the hemp string and the needles to sew our clothes. Occasionally though, we hear of those that society terms the super-rich. These are the individuals that have so much money that it often seems as if they dont know what to do with it. Here are just a few examples of some of the things the insanely wealthy are able to do with their money. 1. A pushy sales guy in Turkey convinced Ben Affleck to purchase a $2,500 rug ... but with no place else to put it, it ended up becoming a bath mat by Affleck's tub. 2. When Bono left his hat in Italy, he did what any normal person would do: spent $1,700 on a plane ticketfor the hat. 3. Lady Gaga spent $50,000 on a meter meant to ... keep away ghosts. 4. Victoria Beckham's iPhone 4 is made of 24 karat gold, and cost her $35,000. 5. Kim Basinger may take the cake: She once purchased an entire Georgia town for $20 million. 6. Beyonce spent $100,000 on a pair of gold Balenciaga leggings which she wore at the BET awards in 2007. 7. Chris Brown spent $1.5 million on a Bugatti - one of the most expensive cars ever made 8. Paris Hilton splashed out a reported $325,000 on a 300 square foot mini mansion - a replica of her own home for her dogs. 9. Rihanna is rumored to pay $1 million a year to keep her hair in check 10. When Kelis and rapper Nas got married, they spent $36,000 on matching gold 'grills' for their teeth. Hers read 'tasty', his read 'nasty' 11. At an auction in 1999, Mariah Carey spent $662,500 on a white baby grand piano that had once belonged to Marilyn Monroe This is just a glimpse at what some people have the ability to do with the money they earn or inherit. Dave Ramsey would definitely have a very different opinion of what could be done with this money. For those of us that are just starting in our careers, it seems that we can continue to pursue or dreams. One day we may be the celebrity that owns a million dollar 24 karat gold bath tub.

FAMILY GUY EPISODE PULLED IN RESPONSE TO BOMBINGS

By: Kevin Ott On Tuesday, just one day after the bombing at the Boston Marathon, FOX television removed an episode of Family Guy from Hulu and Fox, with no intent on reairing the episode. The episode only days before the bombing, and featured two separate scenes; one of a sports newscaster asking Peter Griffin how he won the Boston Marathon which was from him driving his car over the other racers and riding to the finish line, and another of a terrorist group Peter unknowingly befriended, and sets off a bomb by calling his friend on a cell phone number his new buddy gave him. Unfortunately, because of the wonders of the internet, the two scenes have been spliced together and placed on Youtube by a few individuals. The spliced scene features the newscaster asking Peter how he won the Boston Marathon, and featuring a flashback to what appears to be Peter calling a cellphone and setting off the bombs that rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday. Many people, who did not view the original episode, immediately began to raise arms in anger at the spliced video clip. Some of the more extreme and outrageous conspiracy theories about the bombings on Monday now have people accusing Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane of being involved with the planning and carrying out of the bombing. The clip did not sit well with McFarlane, a comedian usually known for his crude and uncensored humor. McFarlane instantly took to twitter upon seeing the clip and hearing of the backlash, ridiculing its creators and saying The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims. The episodes author, Paul Joseph Watson, also defended the episode against the claims of conspiracies following McFarlanes tweet, stating "It is now being claimed that the whole issue is an 'abhorrent hoax' merely because the two scenes from the same episode were spliced together. The fact that the episode depicted people being killed at the Boston Marathon, in addition to a separate clip which depicted two explosions, is not a hoax. The network instantly pulled the episode from Hulu and Fox.com in response to the clip, and a spokesperson for FOX has told the Associated Press and Reuters that there are no plans to put it back up or reair the episode anytime in the foreseeable future. The network is also working with the administrators of YouTube to pull down any traces of the offensive spliced clip. So far, they have been unsuccessful in completely removing the video from the internet. McFarlane is very stern in his determination to remove the clip though, viewing it as an insult to the tragedy that took place on Monday.

Music box Reviews: Fall Out Boy Save Rock and Roll
By: Tyler Roloff

After much anticipation from fans around the world Fall Out Boy has released their new studio album Save Rock and Roll. The album dropped on April 10th of this year and was met with high hopes; unfortunately for fans of the previous Fall Out Boy style and albums this one is a bust. The album is classified as part of the Pop Punk genre of music, but is really more on the Pop side of the genre. The album single What You Did in the Dark (Light em Up) was supposed to build hype for the album, but left several fans wanting more of than what was featured. Fans like myself were in high hopes that the album would hold more promise than the single, it does not offer any at all. The title Save Rock and Roll is a title rolling in irony and hypocrisy. The album places another nail in the coffin of rock n roll falling in with common pop artists such as FUN and other bands that are a dime a dozen. The album more so condemns Rock and Roll then saves it. Half way into the album this reporter was praying that his ear drums would rupture. Take a tip from me and save your money and save your ears; this is the kind of generic crap that will bombard the radio for the next few years. Overexposure is a guarantee for this album and the band will be known by everyone as their debut sell-out album.

Atlanta Braves Win 10 Straight Before Falling to Kansas City Royals

Just when people thought the Braves might not ever lose another Major League Baseball game they managed to fall to the Kansas City Royals. Its only mid-April but the Braves lost only their second game on Wednesday the 17th. The other loss this month came against their NL East rival Phillies after the Braves defeated them in the two games before to win the series. The Braves have been off to one of their hottest starts ever after making some big offseason moves such as getting rid of Martin Prado in order to acquire the second of two Upton brothers. Impressively, six of the ten games the Braves won were on the road against rival teams such as the Marlins and Nationals. The Braves have been aided by some strong pitching and some stunning hitting by some big bats in their lineup. The Braves have been led in homers by newcomers Justin Upton with 8 HRs and rookie catcher Evan Gattis with 4. Gattis has been an extremely nice story as the young rookie, who is currently filling in for Braves veteran Brian McCann, has come on strong early in the season. Evan Gattis Pictured Left While the Braves suffered a minor setback against the Kansas City Royals, it looks like this season is shaping up to be a fun one for Atlanta fans all over the country. It will be exciting going into the summer months to see just how electric this year's Braves can be. However in Major League Baseball, only time can tell. By Jarrett Scott
