PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO 2013

ALEX GAVRA

WHITE IN BLACK // 8/5/2013 // LOW KEY OUTDOORS PHOTOGRAPHY // PHOTO WILL BE EXHIBITED AT THE SEE.ME GALLERY IN NEW YORK CITY FROM JULY TO SEPTEMBER 2013 // COPYRIGHT 2013 ENCORE PHOTOGRAPHY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

This digital portfolio contains examples of my most recent work in targeted areas of photography. The topics presented in the next pages are droplet photography, fashion/clothes photography, urban and candid photography, as well as sample works of portraiture. The choice of these projects depends highly on my preference as to which paths of photography I would like to follow in my professional career. Droplet photography was one of the first areas I studied when I took my first steps as a photographer and I feel it is a perfect example of the fascinating behavior of water, often ignored by many. Still life, however, can be as interesting if projected in the right way. That is why I have been trying to give a dynamism to simple everyday objects like the shoes in this portfolio to deliver a different perspective. Urban photography is probably one of the most intriguing and challenging fields of photography. Combined with candid shots, the result is always unique, a different subject in the same scene. Portraiture is one of the most popular photographic types and one to ever evolve in the next years. The digitization of life in the modern age has led people to demand digital photographic material, whether it is for their personal social network page or for their business website.

From an early age I was surrounded by art in all forms and naturally a part of me always wanted to pursue a career in a related area. I have occasionally been drawing, composing music and designing illustrations but my real passion had always been photography. Even though I had no access to higher-level cameras, I never hesitated to test the limits of the compact cameras I owned. The moment finally arrived during my undergraduate years that I could own my first DSLR camera. From the first moment I fell in love with photography all over again and realised that I had just found what I wanted to do in my life. Photography to me is synonymous to freezing time. It is not just about the physical outcome, the image displayed on a piece of paper or on a monitor. It is mainly about the moment the shutter button is pressed all the way down and for a fraction of a second I can feel time stopping right then and there. Despite the fact that I have only been photographing for a short period of time, I have already begun to appreciate numerous photography styles such as long exposure, candid, urban, studio and macro photography. Recently I was also introduced to the area of cinemagraphs, which has stunned me completely. I can see countless applications of this technique in the modern emarket, especially when it comes to fashion photography or advertisements.

My ultimate goal is to continuously improve technically and artistically in the field of photography. Having said so, I also acknowledge that one can only do so by specialising in targeted areas. I am confident that my involvement with programming during my undergraduate years has radically enhanced my critical and analytical thinking. Combining these values with my constant willingness to learn and my ever-growing passion for photography, I look forward with optimism to an exciting life chapter of realising my dream. My intention is to initially investigate in detail the areas of close-up droplet photography, cinemagraphs, portraiture, urban and candid photography, as I strongly believe these are the main areas I aim to excel and base a future career on.
