"Fake is as old as the Eden tree" Orson Welles Orson Welles.

. Citizen Kane, a timeless and ever relevant film, carries more weight now than it ever has, using composition and semiotics reflecting the hegemonic control media moguls used against the people, relatable within modern context to Lord Levisons Inquiry. Welles was a great illusionist creating a movie ahead of its time. CGI is at the forefront of visual storytelling, creating verisimilitude for audiences to embrace fake realities or entirely new ones; hence, my draw to the creative media industry. After reading Dancing in the Distraction Factory by Media Theorist Andrew Goodwin it gave me an insight into Musicology; the way in which music and brand is reflected through the visual medium. Working at numerous UK festivals gave me an unprecedented insight into the high production multimedia installations of many high profile artists. Adam Smiths aural/visual masterpiece that is The Chemical Brothers Dont Think impressed me through its use of 3D motion capture, aural animation, and Luma Matte compositing. To see the live extension of their brand image reflected in such spectacular form and to see thousands of people actively participating in this brand experience was nothing short of epic. Working with digital compositing programs, as a viewer I actively unravel the stages in which media is composited even down to specific render passes, working out how I could achieve a similar effect. The Channel 4 floating idents are for me the most frustrating. Their simple concept is executed with flawless precision yet at a standard I aspire to surpass. I apply for my chosen places recognizing that they offer me the chance to reach my optimal potential as a digital artist providing me with advanced facilities and tuition to extend my practical and theoretical knowledge of digital compositing, enabling me to create greater illusions and solve bigger puzzles which Im sure my future career in Animation will no doubt provide me with. Finally my current A-Level project demonstrates Character Rotoscoping, 3D animation (Physical Rendering & Modynamics) integrated with 3D camera tracking (Boujou 5.0) of conventional moving camera shots. Enjoying Brechtian Theatre I took a risk incorporating multimedia theatre in my A-Level Production combining audio lighting, animation, and contemporary physical theatre reminiscent of my previous festival installation experiences. I raised the profile of Radio independently running, managing, and broadcasting a College radio station for a 3 year period embedding it within student culture. In addition to my responsibilities as Deputy Head Boy my dedication to the learning community has involved live outside broadcasting to stop motion animation tutorials with younger students. I have been recognized regionally for my commitment earning RYLA, Rotary Digital Arts, and YG&T Awards. Team work has been vital in both the DofE award and Ten Tors events accepting responsibilities as a team Red Cross First Aider/Navigator. In addition I am a qualified 3 star Kayaker recently selected for a North Face Youth Expedition to Montenegro an invaluable cultural learning experience. Living rurally with very little contact with the industry, I learned independently through Web Tutorials from 3D artist Rob Redman in Adobe After Effects and MAXON C4D allowing me to produce animation exceeding what the media syllabus expects. Entrepreneurial freelance videography work provides me with income I can reinvest in education and tools. I am also a keen photographer, developing a creative eye especially on realistic lighting choices within the 3D world plus advanced 3D camera configurations. Finally I intend to take a gap year to develop a portfolio and software capabilities, enabling myself to advance quickly on enrolment.
