GENERIC NAME: ceftriaxone BRAND NAME: Keptrix CLASSIFICATION: Antibiotic DOSAGE: 1g, IV Q12 ROUTE: IV
Inhibits cell wall synthesis, promoting osmotic instability that is usually bactericidal.
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to drug or other cephalosphorin. Use cautiously in patients with history of sensitivity to penicillin
Adverse effect: Dizziness Fever Headache Nausea Vomiting Pain Indurations Tenderness at the injection site
Nurse should advise patient to promptly report signs of adverse reactions. Nurse should instruct patient to report pain at IV site. Nurse should advise patient to report immediately when loose stool or Diarrhea occurs.
