Visiting the Newell House Museum


The Historic Newell House is located on a hillside west of the entrance to Champoeg State Heritage Area, above the banks of the Willamette River. The home was originally built in 1852, and was then reconstructed by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in the 1950's and has become a center for Living History activities, archives, and artifacts in the French Prairie region of the northern Willamette Valley. Come visit Newell House! Historical tours and other events are open to the public throughout the year, and also available as a wedding venue. Hours: March 1 through October 31 Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Major Holidays 1 to 5 PM Or tours any day any time by Appointment. Admission: Adults $4 Children $2 DAR Members and Seniors $3 Directions to Newell House 8089 Champoeg Rd. NE, St. Paul, OR 97137 Located at the corner of Champoeg Rd. and French Prairie Rd, just 1/8 mile West of the entrance to the Champoeg State Heritage Area. From Newberg and 99W: Take OR-219 (Newberg-St. Paul Hwy) South towards St. Paul. Turn left onto Champoeg Rd NE and travel about 3 miles. Turn left at the intersection of Champoeg Rd. and French Prairie Road. Newell House will be immediately on your left. From Salem via I-5: Take I-5 North towards Portland. Take Exit 278 (Donald/Aurora) and turn left to go under the I-5 overpass. Follow the signage to Champoeg State Heritage Area. Newell House is the next driveway after the Champoeg entrance. From Wilsonville via I-5: Take I-5 South towards Salem. Take Exit 278 (Donald/Aurora) and turn right. Follow the signage to Champoeg State Heritage Area. Newell House is the next driveway after the Champoeg entrance.
