Speech Day
We look forward to welcoming parents to Speech Day on Saturday 13th July when the guest speakers will be Mr Mike Beale, Mr Tony Spratling and Mr James Rapson. Speech Day is the formal event of the year at Tockington Manor. Upper School boys should wear blazer, grey shirt, trousers and tie, Years 7 and 8 girls blazer, kilt, white blouse and tie, junior girls blazer and summer dress. Children in Years 3 and 4 should come in at the normal time. We hope parents will dress appropriately for the occasion. Ladies are welcome to wear hats if they wish. Leavers should wear their OT scarves and ties. Mr & Mrs Tovey would like to invite everyone for drinks on the lawn after speeches to give them a chance to say goodbye.
Library Books
Many of the children have books borrowed from the library which are overdue and now need to be returned so that we can do a stock check before re-opening the library in September. All children who need to return books have been issued a reminder. Please could you make sure that there are no library books loitering in bedrooms and bags, and can you make sure that your child has returned their library books before the summer break? We have been delighted by the much more frequent borrowing habits of the children since we refreshed the library and urge you to encourage the use of the local library or bookshops during the holiday. Many thanks. Ms Case
Year 2 Presentations
Congratulations to all the Year 2 children for their enthusiasm and commitment this term. They have had to prepare and deliver a five minute presentation on a topic of their choice to the rest of the Lower School and engage in a Q & A session. We have had a breadth of talks on different sports, Tom Daley, holidays, the history of the internet, Korean culture, Vikings, etc; the range has been impressive. This is a valuable experience and greatly enhances their speaking and listening skills. We had nerves and apprehension but without fail everyone has asked to do it again! This year in particular I have noticed the impact this has had on speaking and listening across the department as a whole. In a recent look@my work assembly, the Lower School were the only children asking the guest speaker questions about her job as an archaeologist. Reception children have been independently role-playing giving presentations and answering questions. The icing on the cake has been an email from Tom Daley himself saying what a fantastic school we were! Miss Sheppard

Each race had five children in and although the youngest category was 6 years, Emily in Reception, age 4, was entered into this category and kept up very well with the older children, taking 4th place and 5th place in Breaststroke and Front Crawl and swam both races in less than one minute.
