Module 1 Description

1. Title of Module: Business Style and Corporate Culture 2. Duration of Module: 1 week 3. Objectives of the Module: a. Gather information about companys structure and performance, and business environment; b. Use suitable verbs and prepositions to talk about responsibilities; c. Answer literal or inferential comprehension questions; and d. Understand and pronounce basic business vocabulary about company structure and performance, and business environment. 4. Module Content: The module focuses on the basic business knowledge which identifies the different departments a company includes. This basic knowledge guides the student to gather and organize ideas about the concept of business environment (corporate culture) and company performance. Authentic texts written and spoken- are included to help the students to understand the concepts in English, in addition to the acquisition of basic sentence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation of words which support the study to express his/her ideas in written and oral communication. 5. Learning Outcome: By the end of this module, students will be able to define what each department does in a company, and the different style each company adopts in writing and speaking. They will be able to use verbs and prepositions to tackle the aforementioned concept. 6. Learning Activities: For each item outlined in the first objective, various activities are included which focus on integrating the four skills required from an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learner. Thus, the activities include business-oriented listening and reading texts which integrate writing, grammar, and speaking activities. 7. Assessment: Each of the points to be discussed in the module will be assessed through a variety of tasks (assignments and quizzes). Assignments mainly focus on the assessment of the students 4 skills in the items outlined in the objectives. Quizzes are held on weekly basis to assess the general English level of every student to enable the instructor

to direct the student to means of developing his/her language skills. On weekly basis the student is going to receive an e-mail from the instructor; the e-mail highlights the points of strengths and weaknesses of the students so that the student can maximize his/her benefit from the course.
