Benefits
Plan out a complex set of steps involved in a data center project (such as server and rack moves, connection changes, etc.) then implement the change and track its progress Visualize beforehand, through a series of pictures, how the new device would fit the data center via the rack timeline view Prevent costly rework by seeing the impact of proposed changes (space, power, connections) before committing the resources to the project Fully comply with auditing requirements using a detailed record of changes made and the personnel accountable for specific tasks Ensure IT and facilities teams are on the same page, reducing risks of unplanned down time and other issues brought by lack of coordination Build confidence among decision makers that planned changes are well-designed, well-documented, easy to follow and executed in a controlled manner
Change is inevitable in todays data centers. Some are struggling with the challenges posed by virtualization and are catching their breath in the chase. Others are simply growing too fast and there isnt enough time to plan ahead. Change done in haste often results in even more problems. However, it is the norm when internal and external clients are growing impatient and critical operations need to be up and running. This forces many support teams to resort to band-aid solutions to ensure post-change availability, at least until the problems from the hasty and unplanned changes arise. Decision-making that is either based on rough estimates or lacks coordination with other teams leads to costly rework or misuse of resources. Meanwhile, certain projects require multiple changes. Tracking progress in projects like these is a task in itself. In a nutshell, there is simply too much risk and stress involved with not planning change effectively in the data center. The Trellis Change Planner allows data center managers to plan, assign, execute and audit changes in the data center, faster and more intelligently. The operations team assigns tasks to individuals, who can then execute the plan against a record of progress. Data center managerswho use actual consumption and capacity as their baselinecan confidently say that an asset move will be supported in its new location and that capacity will be there when it physically arrives. Impact is determined before a capital investment is made. The Trellis Change Planner also issues notifications when a task is edited, conflicts with another or is completed; provides a rack timeline view that shows the state of the same rack in different periods of time; and allows the export to a spreadsheet for easier reporting. It is the perfect tool for implementing changes in the data center, from planning and execution down to auditing and reporting. With the Trellis Change Planner, you can: Plan data center changes and manage relationships across projects Preview change impact before committing resources Manage resource reservation including rack space, power capacity and outlets Prevent on-the-fly decisions and reduce time for implementing the change Create and manage projects and tasks (user- or system-defined) Display and manage conflicts between projects; allow user to resolve conflicts Deploy or decommission equipment based on actual consumption and capacity Track progress via notifications for tasks edited or completed Audit data center change history Run customizable reports; export plan to a spreadsheet or print to PDF
Allows user to know all tasks assigned to him for a specific period, as well as see any dependencies for his tasksall in one consolidated view Utilize real-time data to proactively plan and coordinate usage of critical resources Provides rack timeline which allows user to see changes planned through pictures which show the changes on the assets over a given period Track progress of projects on specific tasks, individuals and time period Sends notifications when a task is edited, conflicts with another or is completed Resolve conflicts between projects with relevant information shared by both IT and facilities teams Manage an audit trail of changes to the data center infrastructure
