CURFEW NOTICE
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in juvenile victimization and crime. At the same time, the crimes committed by and against juveniles have become more violent. A significant percentage of juvenile crime occurs during curfew hours. Because of their lack of maturity and experience, juveniles are particularly susceptible to becoming victims of older perpetrators. The younger a person is, the more likely he or she is to be a victim of crime. While parents have the primary responsibility to provide for the safety and welfare of juveniles, the City also has a substantial interest in the safety and welfare of juveniles. Moreover, the City has an interest in preventing juvenile crime, promoting parental supervision, and providing for the well-being of the general public. A city-wide curfew will reduce juvenile victimization and crime and advance public safety, health, and general welfare. Hibbings curfew ordinance is as follows: Children under 12 must be home prior to 9 PM every day of the week. Persons age 12-14 must be home prior to 10 PM Sunday through Thursday, and home prior to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday. Persons age 15-17 must be home prior to 11 PM Sunday through Thursday, and home prior to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Lawful employment or an emergency. School, church or sports function. Errand directed by a parent. Interstate travel. On public property next to residence.

The only exceptions to the above are:

Remember consuming alcoholic beverages before age 21 is illegal and dangerous. It is illegal to provide alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of 21. Act responsibly and enjoy our community events.
