PROCEDURE: Preparation of samples: 1. Weight the mould correct to a gram.

2. Put a collar to a mould and compact the soil in 3 layers with 27 blows with 2.5 kg dynamic tool.

3. Remove the collar and determine the moisture content. Then trim off the excess.

4. Weight the mould and soil to determine burke density.

5. Insert the sealing gasket and place the soil specimen on the perforated base plate and fix the specimen on it.

6. Insert the sealing gasket on the top of soil specimen and fix the top cap.

Testing procedure: 1. Put a specimen into a test mould to determine the datum.

2. Connect inlet nozzle of the mould to the stand pipe and determine the datum and height. Then allow some water to flow until steady flow is obtained.

3. Note down the time interval t for a fall of head in the standpipe h.

4. Repeat step testing procedure, two times to determines t for the same head.

5. Find the average coefficient of permeability using equation, k= 2.3026
