Mrs. Caroline Laarni Serenas Moderator, Economics Society Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan Invitation for Partnership

Dear Mr. Sabal, Greetings in St. La Salle! The Young Economists Convention is a product of the collective efforts of the De La Salle University Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (DLSU-AKIEBS) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in cooperation with the Junior Philippine Economics Society (JPES) and the De La Salle University-Manila Economics Organization (DLSU-EconOrg). It mainly consists of a series of conventions held for the purpose of bringing together business and economics students and enabling them to learn about and share ideas on the prevalent economic issues of the time. Now on its 13th year, the YEC commission envisions the establishment of long-term and mutually beneficial partnerships with prestigious institutions in the Philippines and abroad that share the same vision of nurturing critically-minded young economists who contribute to nation building. With this, we are pleased to extend an invitation to the Economics Society of Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan to host the first-ever 13th YEC Mindanao Regional Convention. Through this partnership with your prestigious university, we believe we can give all business and economics students in Mindanao an avenue to grow as future industry and academe leaders.

Given the recent succession of investment grade ratings given to the Philippines by various agencies, both foreign and domestic investor confidence have significantly increased. This can be capitalized upon as a step towards industrialization in the country. Hence, the yearlong theme of the 13 th Young Economists Convention is Fueling the Philippine Economic Takeoff: Advancing Industrialization through the Thriving Investment Climate. The Mindanao Regional Convention theme, in turn, will focus on a relevant issue in the region that is in line with the yearlong theme. Furthermore, among the usual features of a one day mini-convention is a plenary session of three keynote speakers followed by a breakout session or focus group discussion for students to contemplate on issues related to the convention theme. Also, the Mindanao round for the AKI Contest for Outstanding Research Paper of Young Economists will be held, where students with research papers related to the theme will present their work and whose winner will be given a cash prize (subject to publication standards) and an invitation to the 13th Young Economists Convention Main Convention to compete in the national round. Our organization will provide funding to capture necessary expenses relating to the convention, subject to the agreement of both parties. For your reference, we have enclosed a brief presentation to give you a better background of our organization and activities. Should you be interested, we will set a briefing with your office or your student organization. In addition, please feel free to contact us at +63 917 309 7263 or ona.nadj@gmail.com for questions, clarifications and other concerns. We look forward to partnering with your university! Live Jesus in our hearts forever! Sincerely,

John Patrick Henry D. Ong Commissioner 13th Young Economists Convention

Nadia Kristina M. Ona Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs 13th Young Economists Convention
