Access ASTM International Information Through the Qatar National Library

The Qatar National Library and ASTM International have entered into a unique and
ground breaking relationship to provide online access to ASTMs world class standards and technical information to the whole of the State of Qatar.

Access is available to the employees of all government departments, to the students and teaching staff of all academic institutions and to the employees of all state owned and private corporations working at locations in Qatar. With no limitations on simultaneous users or documents that can be downloaded, access to ASTMs information will help meet the commitments of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and in particular Qatar Foundations aim of Unlocking Human Potential.

The Qatar National Library is a national institution serving Research, Education and Community research and information needs. Through information services, print, virtual collections, and collaborative learning spaces, the library will support the development of Qatars knowledge economy, improve learning outcomes, provide heritage enrichment activities, and provide life-long learning opportunities. Prior to the opening of the physical building in April 2014, the QNL is embarking upon an ambitious project to provide a virtual branch with eResources such as eBooks, eJournals, full text databases, and streaming media.

Formed in 1898 and based in Philadelphia, USA, ASTM International is a not for profit globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international standards, research, books, journals and much more. Today, some 13,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade and build consumer confidence. ASTM members number more than 32,000 of the worlds top technical experts and business professionals representing 135 countries. Beyond its leadership in the area of standards development, ASTM offers technical training, as well as proficiency testing, inter-laboratory crosscheck and newly initiated certification programs, which support manufacturers, users, researchers and laboratories worldwide. ASTM standards are used extensively in Qatar in the carbon industry, widely cited in the Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) and commonly referred to in academic institutions. ASTM also has a Memorandum of Understanding with Laboratories and Standardization Affairs (QS), part of the Qatar Ministry of Environment to help develop Qatar national standards.

To complete the registration process, please visit the Qatar National Library temporary facility (see map at http://qatarnationallibrary.org/about-the-library/ location-maps) as you will need to provide a valid copy of your Qatari ID/Residence Permit. Anyone who lives in Qatar and has a valid Qatari ID/Residence Permit is eligible for a free library card. register groups of individual researchers may be made by contacting the QNL.
