A Coatliii, by William Buttler Yeats
I made my song a coat

Covered with embroideries

Out of old mythologies
From heel to throat;
but the fools cought it,
Wore it in the world's eyes

As though they'd wrought it.

Song, let them take it,
For there's more enterprise
In walking naked.

This 'Arbanon' was a mountain, since she wrote of passes and paths through it
(13.5), and it lay somewhere between Dyrrachium and 'Deure' (Dibra) in the valley of
the Black Drin. The most likely candidate is Mt Dajti, east of Cape Pale (now
Rodoni). A plural form in the neuter gender was used by Anna Comnena at 4.8,
where "Korniskortes set out from Arbana (11). As in the case of the Acroceraunia'
(sc. 'ore'), a mountainous area was being named Arbana', i.e. Mt Dajti and Mali me

these are serious (non-chauvinistic) arguments that cannot be summarily
dismissed. Furthermore, during the 4th to 6th centuries, the Rumanian region was
heavilly affected by large scale invations of Goths and Slavs, and the Morava valley
(in Serbia) was a main invasion route and the site of the earliest known Slavic sites.
Thus this would have been a region from which an indigenous population would have
naturally have fled., Fine, JA. The Early medieval Balkans. Univ. of Michigan

Wilkes 1995, p. 212-213: "The second instrument used by the Romans for
consolidating their conquered territories was the colonial settlement of Romans on
lands confiscated from the natives. Refined in the Italian peninsula, the institution
was soon being employeed successfully in overseas territories such as Gaul, Spain
and Africa. In the Late Republic, colonies in Italy and overseas, became a device
used by leading commanders to reward their veterals, a system later perfected by
Augustus and his successors. In Illyrian Macedonia, colonies were settled at Byllis,
and Dyrrhahium during the civil wars, On the Dalmatian coast several existing
Roman settlements appear to have been strengthened and organized as colonies,
including Salona, Narona, and Epidaurum, Jader and Senia...A later generation of
Roman colonies, often established aty or near the sites of vacated legionary bases,
were intended to accommodate the veterans discharged from legionary service."
