The

2013 Stroking It Wild Invitational

A Tournament of Integrity

August 2-5, 2013 Victoria, British Columbia

Format: Welcome to The 2013 Stroking It Wild Invitational. Established in 2012, this year marks the second anniversary of this prestigious golf event. The purpose of this tournament is to have an annual weekend where childhood friends can come together and bond while playing a game that is known for its gamesmanship and integrity. This is an exclusive invitational tournament, and those who have been selected have been so because of their friendships with fellow tournament players, as well as the integrity that they demonstrate both on and off the course. To play in the tournament of integrity, one must possess this noble characteristic. This year the tournament will be held at two courses located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. The stroke play tournament will consist of two rounds of 18 holes. The first round will be played at the Olympic View Gold Club and the second (final) round will be played at the Highland Pacific Golf Course. The golfer with the lowest net score after two rounds will be deemed the champion, taking home the coveted Walter Hagen Trophy and will continue the tradition of donning the Green Jacket. This year also marks the inception of the additional team play event. Two teams will compete over the two days for the prestigious Tin Cup trophy. The first day will see teams split up into pairings where they will compete in a game of foursomes against an opposing pairing. The final day will see all competitors from each team split up into 10 one-verse-one match play games. Each match is worth a total of one point. At the end of regulation, the team with most points will be deemed the champion. Each year, the SIW committee will select two captains to lead the teams. To be named a SIW captain is one of the most honorable accomplishments with regards to the Stroking It Wild Invitational. The two captains will lead their teams, deciding team pairings and the order of the playing roster. To be named a captain, a golfer must demonstrate the values that the tournament holds in high regard, namely integrity, gamesmanship and tradition. This year, the captain of Team McGavin will be Brady Loseth. The captain of Team Gilmore will be Brian Metzger.

It is acknowledged that the handicaps will not be perfect, but one must keep in perspective the goal of this weekend, which is to have fun. Handicaps are established using the following criteria: 1) If a player only has a SIW Average, their 2013 SIW handicap will be their historical SIW Handicap average.

2) If a player has an established RCGA handicap, they will have their 2013 SIW handicap determined by taking 50% of their historical SIW handicap and 50% of their RCGA handicap. 3) If a player only has a RCGA handicap, their 2013 SIW handicap will be their overall RCGA handicap. 4) If a player has no handicap, the SIW rules committee will determine the handicap for that player. 5) The highest handicap a player can be assigned is 36. 2012 Tournament Recap: The 2012 inaugural event was played over two days in the deserts of Osoyoos, British Columbia. Both days were marked by wet, cool weather, with torrential downpours making the golf a battle of the conditions. Although the weather at the beginning of both rounds was cold and wet, both days ended with blue and clear skies. Day 1 was played at the Osoyoos Golf and Country Club, with Spencer Lytton commencing the event with a historical drive right down the middle of the fairway. The day was marked with several highlights, such as Travis Pfefferles chip-in for birdie on the third hole, marking the first birdie in tournament history. Throughout the weekend Travis was popular with the galleries because of his elaborate costumes and long drives off the tee. It was rumored that his motivation to win the tournament came from a comment seen on Twitter written by his girlfriend, who mentioned that she would give him a brown belt to match the green jacket if he won. Other notable events from the day included Brian Metzger, dressed like the Monopoly man, puking in the course parking lot after the round, the complete toilet papering of a random van in the parking lot, and damage to a golf cart that was left in the middle of the 18th fairway. At the end of day 1, Jason Abougoush shot a career low 75 to take command at the top of the leaderboard. The boys left their mark on the streets of Osoyoos on Saturday night (at the Owl Pub and 7-11 on Main Street). Some of the highlights included Carson disappearing into an alley with a larger local female, Kyle Turik finding love, and Mike Prah being Prahd. This was followed by championship hangover Sunday. The tournament

committee had a tough time convincing the starter on the first hole that the event was a legit tournament, as 6 of the first 8 players failed to get their tee shots by the ladies tee box. Joey Polley, warming up for his round, released his club 100 yards straight down the middle of the first fairway, showing that the round was going to be a struggle. Max Walliser, clad in white as if he was a tennis player at Wimbledon, was ready to make a charge, although with the wet conditions, the outfit he was wearing showed a lot more than was desired. There were several players with an outside chance of making a run on day two to catch Abougoush. Casey Wenzel began the day in second place, but after consumption of too many beverages, soon fell out of contention. Spencer Lytton pressed hard on the front, but a poor flatstick and even poorer attitude left him too many shots back. Patrick Bobyn had a chance, but an 8 on the first hole was the last anyone saw of him. Aaron Buat was steady throughout the weekend, finishing at even par for the tournament and letting the gallery hear a tiger roar every chance he could. Riley Loyst was the story of day two, shooting a front nine 39 to tie Jason for the lead. After the round, Loyst stated that he was nervous on the back nine and starting thinking about the jacket. He would eventually finish second place, one stroke back. In the end, it was Jason Abougoush becoming the inaugural champion, cementing his name in SIW history. The 17th hole encompasses enough natural beauty for an entire course. From the tee, aim toward a breathtaking 40 foot waterfall that frames the green 455 yards away. This signature hole plays through a steep, narrow valley past a huge rock column and an elegant Japanese garden. It's no wonder Olympic View was the first golf course in British Columbia that Tiger Woods played, as an amateur in 1994 Highland Pacific Golf Course 450 Creed Road Victoria, British Columbia V9B 6C9

Victorias newest public golf course is just a short drive from downtown Victoria. We're an 18 hole championship golf course that is the perfect test for all golfers. The course is routed through rolling hills with stunning viewpoints and punishing drop- offs. Island Golfer Magazine says we have some of the best vistas seen anywhere on any golf course as well as some of the best looking holes on Vancouver Island. Rules: The Stroking It Wild Invitational is a tournament of integrity. There are several rules and considerations that everyone must keep in mind so that we all have an enjoyable and fun weekend. Stroke Play Rules: Subtracting the handicap from ones gross score to achieve a net score will determine the final scores. The player with the lowest total net score after two days will be deemed the champion. Ex: Gross Score 85. Handicap 11 Net Score 74 All golf scores will be kept using course scorecards. In addition, scores will be inputted into the Golf GameBook Iphone App. Day 1 Team Play Rules: Day one consists of a foursomes format. Each player will play the hole to completion. At the end of the hole the scores will be tallied. The team with the lowest total score will win the hole. Handicap strokes will be determined by anchoring strokes to the lowest handicap player per group. Their handicap will be the anchor, with additional strokes being offered to all higher handicap players. Example: Group 1: Patrick (10) Max (13) Brian (14) Brady (15) Patrick would get no additional strokes for the match. Max would get three, Brian would get four and Brady would get five. Players get strokes on the highest rated difficulty holes.

Patrick and Max VS Brian and Brady Score on par 4 hole: Patrick 4 Max 6 Brian 4 Brady 6 If this was the 1st ranked difficulty hole, Max, Brian and Brady would all receive a stroke. The net scores become: Patrick 4-0 = 4 Max 6-1 - 5 Brian 4-1 = 3 Brady 6-1= 5 Patrick and Maxs combined net score is 4+5 = 9. Brian and Bradys combined net score is 3+5= 8. Brady and Brian win the hole and are 1UP for the match. Day 2 Match Play Day 2 consists of one verse one match play format. Golf Course Rules: 1) One player from each group will be in charge of tabulating the scores for the group on a scorecard and on the Golf GameBook iPhone app. At the end of the round, the scorer will add up the scores and then immediately hand in the scorecard to the rules officials. 2) Players must add all of their strokes for each hole. There are no mulligans. 3) We are playing resort rules. If a ball is lost, hit OB, hit into an environmentally sensitive area or hit in the water, the player will drop a golf ball at the nearest point of entry (2 club lengths from the boundary) and add one penalty stroke. So if a player hits their drive out of bounds, they will drop a ball at the nearest point of entry to the OB. They will now be hitting their 3rd shot. 4) All players must putt out the hole for every putt for birdie, par or bogey. After which, a short putt of two feet or less can be deemed good by the group. 5) Maximum score per hole is double par: Par 3 Max 6 Par 4 Max 8 Par 5 Max 10 6) If in doubt, please play out the hole and then the scenario will be discussed with the tournament rules officials. 7) NO CHEATING. INTEGRITY

Etiquette Rules: Although this is a tournament and weekend of fun, we must keep in mind that we are playing resort courses. There are many other people playing besides our group so we must keep them and the course in consideration. 1) Proper golf attire is to be worn on the golf course at all times. All players must wear a collared shirt. No jeans or cutoffs are allowed. No sandals. 2) The Starters WILL check our carts at the beginning of the rounds for alcohol brought onto the course. This means that we cannot bring coolers and put them in our carts. If you are sneaking alcohol onto the golf course then you must hide it in your golf bag, as the starters cannot go through your bag. After you are off the first hole, you can bring your own alcohol out. 3) Do not litter or throw garbage onto the golf course. 4) Be respectful of the noise. No music is to be played via stereos while playing on the course. No extreme shouting or swearing. 5) Please rake all sandtraps and replace all divots. 6) Be aware and safe with your golf carts. OBEY all cart signs of where you can and cannot drive. 7) Be aware of when the marshals are watching you. 8) Time is crucial. Please keep up to the group in front of you at all times. If you are a hole behind the group in front, then you are BEHIND. You may be asked by the marshal to pick up and move to the next hole. If that happens, then you are given the MAX score for that hole. 9) Please (try) to be respectful of the beverage girls. 10) ANY DAMAGE TO THE COURSE OR CART WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILTY OF THE ONES INVOLVED.
