Village government goes ahead with revised inter-local re service

the works for the past several years. It has been worked on by the Regional Fire Committee, which is comprised of local officials from the village and townships and has been shaped by feedback from personnel within both of the two fire departments. The proposed regionalization effort offers many significant benefits for the village and our residents, said Village President Shawn Keough. Including a lower overall cost structure, better budget control and predictability, operational and service efficiencies, and better long term opportunity for the firefighters. The matter was a topic of discussion only at the last Village Council meeting, as the revised draft inter-local agreement had the final touches put on it, all the way down to how the new fire organizations name will be handled on equipment and uniform patches going forward. Village Councilmember Paul Cousins made a motion to skip discussing the proposed agreement and jump straight to ratifying it, with Village Councilmember Joe Semifero seconding the motion. I fully support this 100 percent, Cousins said.

The new department will go through a number of transitional changes from two separate organizations to a combined one, such as the hiring of a new fire

chief for the Washtenaw Consolidated Fire and Rescue Department. A new headquarters for the regional fire department is still also to be determined, as per the agreement. All property of both individual departments will not be owned by the new legal entity that is the Washtenaw Consolidated Fire and Rescue Department. A new board of directors for the regional fire

etsy Emrich has a calling. The Dexter-based artist combines her interest with birds and love for recycling into mixed media works of collage art. Using recycled magazines she prefers fashion magazines like Vogue or food magazines and other found objects to cre-

ate her collages, Emrich said her interest in the animal stems from her dad, who was an avid bird watcher before he passed away years ago. (Ravens) kind of signify the connection to the spiritual world, she said. The main reason (I use them) is because they have such personalities. They have attitudes. Theyre sassy. Theyre not a pretty bird, theyre the birds of prey. Emrich will show some of her 3D mixed media pieces at the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair July 17-20, including some from her book raven series, in which she uses vintage books as frames for her collages. Some of her larger-scale

works will also be on display.

Hitting the right note

The single mother of two has been entering her art into art shows across the country for two years and has been producing it off and on for about seven years. This year will be her first time at the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair. Being a mixed media artist wasnt always what Emrich expected to do, however. Emrich was trained as a classical flutist and received a bachelors degree in flute performance from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Md. She also com-

pleted graduated studies at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. Before having her kids, Emrich worked as a musician. She said she has always been fascinated with art growing up and although she didnt study art in school, she took workshops and classes when she could on the side. It was when she took time off from work to stay home with her children that she had more time to focus on painting. Though she began as a painter, Emrich said she stumbled upon collage work after trying to make her pieces more figurative.
