Frequently Asked Questions

What is a keeper league? What makes this league different than your traditional fantasy football league is that you can keep players on your roster from year to year. Thus, it is called a keeper league. How much is the league and when is the money due? The entry fee for the league is $100. In addition to the entry fee, a draft fee of $75 will be collected. Also, a deposit of $175 will be assessed prior to the inaugural season. The deposit ($175) and entry fee ($100; $275 total) is due on or before the inaugural draft while the draft fee ($75) is due two weeks before the draft. After $500 has been collected, all money will be deposited into a savings account of its own. See Article VII. Finances Why is there a deposit? A deposit is necessary in a keeper league for a few reasons. One reason we have a deposit is so that everyone is financially committed to staying in the league from year to year. Another reason we have a deposit is to make the league attractive to a new manager should someone decide to quite/leave the league. Deposits will be redeemed in the year of dissolution. When is the draft? The preferred date of the draft is Sunday, August 25th. Also, we could do the draft on Saturday August 31st. Please check your schedules ASAP because we need to reserve a space suitable to conduct the draft. The inaugural draft is expected to last around 6 hours. Plan accordingly. What is the payout? The payout is based on $100 entry. Thus, there is $1,200 up for grabs every year. The payout is as follows: 1st - $700 2nd - $300 3rd - $200 4th Plans the draft party See Section 7.04 Payout What is an auction draft and how does it work? An auction draft is different from a snake draft in a few ways. The main difference is the absence of a draft order. Instead players are put on the auction block one at a time and the whole league can bid to acquire that player.

In our league, each team will have a fictitious salary cap of $200. This is the ESPN standard and thus all player values on the ESPN site will be based on a salary cap of $200. Managers will take turns (see nomination order 3.03) nominating players to be auctioned. The nominating manager will place the opening bid. The minimum opening bid and minimum bid increment is $1. Each placed bid resets the bidding time on that player to 15 seconds. After a player has been auctioned, the next owner will have 25 seconds to nominate a player for auction. Money not spent will not rollover to the next year. See Article III. The Draft What is an IDP? IDP stands for individual defensive player. On the roster you will notice two new starting spots named Defensive Player Utility (DP) (IDP and DP are synonymous). An IDP can be a defensive tackle, defensive end, linebacker, cornerback, or safety. The following table illustrates how IDPs are scored: Each Sack = 3 points Each Interception = 3 points Each Fumble Recovered = 3 points Each Fumble Forced = 3 points Assisted Tackles = 1 point/AT Solo Tackles = 1.5 points/ST Passes Defended = 1 point/PD Blocked Kick, Punt, or PAT = 3 points

One of the leagues I ran has had a single starting IDP spot with a similar scoring scheme for the last two years, the bread and butter points are tackles. In that league, 8 of the top 10 season scorings IDPs were linebackers. See 2.03 Starting Positions and 2.06(f) What is the scoring system for the league? In general, we are using ESPN standard fractional scoring. However, a few additional scoring categories have been added. The first additional scoring parameter is .5 points per reception (see 2.06(c)(ii)). Furthermore, there is now .1 points per kick off yard returned and punt yard returned. For IDP scoring see the previous FAQ. A full illustration of the scoring can be found in the constitution or on the league homepage. See Section 2.06 Scoring System When a QB throws a pick-6, does that hurt the QBs Team Defense/Special Teams? Yes, a pick-6 thrown by the QB of team X will count against team Xs Defensive/Special Teams total Points Allowed (PA) score.

Points Allowed Fantasy Points See 2.06(g)(viii)-(xv) What is injured reserve (IR)?

With Pick-6 33 -1

Without Pick-6 27 0

An injured reserve slot allows the manager to stash an injured player while they are hurt without having to drop the player or the player occupy a bench/active roster spot. The ESPN system uses the NFLs official disabled list to update players injury status. Players who are eligible for the Injured Reserve (IR) are designated with an asterisk and an IR in red. IR-eligible players can ONLY be moved to the IR slot from a managers active roster or bench. Players cannot be added directly to a managers IR slot from free agency. See Section 2.05 Injured Reserve How does the player acquisition system? Unlike traditional leagues, our league will use a free agent auction system to acquire players. Each manager has a Free Agency Acquisition Budget (FAAB) of $100 per year. Any money not spent will not rollover to next years free agency acquisition budget. Waivers will process every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11 AM EASTERN (waivers do NOT process on Tuesday). The minimum bid is $1. See Section 4.01 Free Agent Auction Acquisition & Section 4.02 Waivers How does trading work? Once a trade is accepted a two day trade review period begins. During which time managers can vote to accept or veto the trade. A trade can be vetoed with 6 votes. There is no trade limit. Trades will NOT be expedited by the commissioner for any reason. See Section 4.03 Trades Can I trade a player that has been kept or is under a Locked-Up contract?
Yes, a player that has previously been kept or is under a Locked-Up contract may be traded. The recipient manager inherits the attributes of the player and/or the terms of the Locked-Up contract that the player is under. See 4.05(h)

When is the trade deadline? The trade deadline is Wednesday November 20th at 11 AM CENTRAL (12 PM ET). See 4.03(b)

How many teams make it to the playoffs? 6 teams will advance to the playoffs. See 2.08(a) Who makes it to the playoffs?
Each division champion (4), as determined by overall record (within the division), advances to the playoffs. Also, the two highest ranked teams that were not division champions will advance to the playoffs. See 2.08(b) and 2.08(c)

What is the division champion tiebreaker?

The tiebreaker for the division championship will be intra division record, head-to-head record, total points for, and total points against (in that order). See 2.08(b)(i)

What is the tiebreaker for the final 2 (not division champs) playoff spot?
The tiebreaker for the final 2 playoff spots will be head-to-head record, total points for, and total points against (in that order). See 2.08(c)(i)

How are the playoff bracket seeds determined?

After we have determined the 6 teams that are in the finals, then we will seed the teams based upon overall record. The tiebreaker for playoff seeding will be head-to-head record, total points for, and total points against (in that order). See 2.02(d) and 2.02(d)(i)

When do the playoffs start and how long do they last? The playoffs start week 14 and last three weeks (end week 16). Each playoff matchup lasts one week. During week 14 the one and two seed will have a bye. See Section 2.08 Playoffs Setup How many players may be kept from year to year? For a given season, a maximum of 6 players may be kept, with up to 3 players being signed to a Locked-Up contract. At least one player must be kept from year to year. See Section 5.03 Keeper Limits

How does keeping work?

When you keep a player, the next years draft budget will be reduced by the value of the keeper. For players that were drafted, the value is the draft price. For players that were acquired via free agency, the value is the next years average ESPN draft value plus an additional dollar. See 3.02(a)(i) and Section 5.01 Eligibility

When must I decide on my keeper(s)? All managers are required to choose their keepers two weeks before the draft. See Section 5.04 Keeper Lock Date What if one of my keepers gets hurt? If a kept player suffers a season ending injury after the keeper lock date, but before the draft, then the manager may pick another keeper assuming the injured keeper is not in a Locked-Up Contract. See 5.04(b) What type of players can be kept? Any player can be kept. See Section 5.01 Eligibility Can a player acquired in a trade be kept? Yes, a player acquired in a trade may be kept. Example 1: James drafted player A for $10. John acquires player A via a trade with James. John may keep player A for $10. Example 2: James picked up player B from the 2013 free agency auction. John acquires player B via a trade with James during the 2013 season. John may keep player B for the 2014 ESPN average draft value of Player B plus an additional dollar. See Section 5.01 Eligibility What is a Locked-Up contract and how does it work? Entering into a Locked-Up (LU) contract is like signing a player to a long term contract. The LU contract can range from 1 to 3 years. When a Manager decides he wants to LU a player, the players salary/value gets adjusted to the average of the original auction value and the valuation on ESPNs auction value sheet. For players acquired via free agency, the next drafts (after being acquired in FA) ESPN auction value will be used instead of original auction value. See Section 5.02 Contract System

Can an IDP enter into a Locked-Up contract?

No, an IDP cannot enter into a Locked-Up contract. Thus, after an IDP has been kept twice he must be released back into free agency. See 5.02(b)

Can a Locked-Up be given to a player who is already under a Locked Up contract?

Yes, as long as the duration of the new LU contract is greater than or equal to the remaining life of the old LU contract. See 5.02(e)

Can you drop a player that is in a Locked-Up contract? Yes, you can drop a player that is under a Locked-Up contract. However, to drop the player you must buyout his contract. The Manager dropping a player under a Locked-Up contract will have his draft budget reduced the following season, and each season thereafter until the Locked-Up contract would have expired naturally. The Manager who has dropped a player under a Locked-Up contract will have his draft budget reduced in descending amounts: 100%, 50%, and 25% of the original contract price respectively in each subsequent draft until the Locked-Up contract would have expired naturally. See 5.02(g)-(i) What happens when a player under a Locked-Up contract is traded? The contract, and its terms, are inherited by the receiving manager. See 5.02(f) How can I propose a rule change? A rule change can be proposed at any time by anyone to the commissioner or vice commissioners. When can rules changed? Rules can be changed at any time. To amend/alter the constitution during the season the league must unanimously (excluding the commissioner) approve the amendment/alteration. To amend/alter the constitution during the off season (after the championship game and before the draft) 6 out of 11 managers (excluding commissioner) must approve the amendment/alteration. Changing the rules after the draft but before the season starts requires 9/11 approval (excluding the commissioner) See Article VI. Amendments to the Constitution
