INDUCTION LAMP TECHNOLOGY

1.What is an induction lamp?

The basic technology for an induction lamp is not particularly new. Essentially, an induction lamp is an electrodeless fluorescent light. Without electrodes, the lamp relies on the fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction and gas discharge to create light. The elimination of filaments and electrodes results in a lamp of unmatched life. Lasting 100,000 hours or 25 years, this system can outlast 100 incandescent,5 HID, or 5 typical fluorescent lamp changes.

HOW DOES INDUCTION SAVE ENERGY?

2.How does an induction lamp work?

2.1 External Inductor Lamps External magnetic induction lamps are essentially fluorescent lamps with electromagnets wrapped around a section of the lamp tube. High frequency energy from the electronic ballast (generator) is sent through wires that are wrapped in a coil around the ferrite inductor, creating a powerful magnet. The induction coil produces a very strong magnetic field that travels through the glass and excites the mercury atoms in the interior, which are provided by a pellet of amalgam (a solid form of mercury). The mercury atoms emit UV light and, just as in a fluorescent tube, the UV light is up-converted to visible light by the phosphor coating on the inside of the tube. The system can be considered as a type of transformer, where the inductor is the primary coil and the mercury atoms within the envelope/tube form a single-turn secondary coil. 2.2 Internal Inductor Lamps
In a variation of this technology, Internal Magnetic Induction Lamps use a light bulb-shaped glass lamp, which has a test tube-like reentrant central cavity. This cavity is coated with phosphors on the interior and filled with inert gas and a pellet of mercury amalgam. The induction coil is wound around a ferrite shaft, which is inserted into the central cavity. The inductor is excited by high frequency energy provided by the external electronic ballast (generator), causing a magnetic field to penetrate the glass and excite gases.

200W Induction lamp

How does a 200W induction lighting system replace a 400W metal halide lighting system and provide significantly better performance and lighting? The answer: lies in what's pupil lumen:
The effect of lighting on people's vision and psychological well-being has been a subject of much study and discus sion for years. Describing light in terms of "lumen output" and measuring it by "foot candles" on a work plane has been the traditional ways of defining how much light isrequired to perform a variety of tasks. However, recent studies havehave re-examined these methods. The "color rendering index" (CRI) and correlated color temperature (CCT) describe the quality of the light (relating to how true colors appear compared to under a noon north sky on a clear day). As lighting technology evolves into vari ous types and colors, simply measuring the lumens provides an inadequate basis for predicting how well people can see. In bright lighting, our pupils contract, allowing more detail to be perceived, while depth of field and perceived brightness also increases. In low light, our eyes dilate to allow in more light. Sam Berman, formerly with the Lighting Systems Research Group at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and a major supporter of the importance of the P/S ratio in lighting selection, developed a conversion factor that applies the P/S ratio to lumen output of various light sources. The ratio expresses the effective lumens the eye will perceive for vision based on the size of the pupil and the effect on vision (see Table 1 below). Some lighting, such as a low-pressure sodium lamp, loses most of its output using this method. A high-quality Induction lamp, on the other hand, maintains its output throughout nearly its entire lifetime.

Induction Lamps Induction lamps can replace most conventional light sources in functional lighting fields. The potential market size is substantial. In addition, incandescent lamps will be phased out in many countries over the next few years, so there will be a high need for energy-saving light sources. With the development of large-scale production, Induction lamps cost will be significantly reduced. Induction lamps can reduce up to 50% less energy consumption than LED, because Induction lamp efficacy is 30% higher than LED, while the lumen depreciation rate is lower. Can be used for industrial, commercial, road, tunnel, bridge, garden and park, agricultural, and advertising lighting. Induction Lamps can be widely applied for diversified functional lighting applications. They are easily and quickly commercialized around the world.
