Business Cards
Date: 6/15/13 Course Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator & InDesign Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Process: I began by creating the logo, I did this by tracing the city scape from a photo. Next, I traced the trunk of a tree from a photo, then creating the rest with simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I then created the outline for the the business cards with simple shapes. Then, I resized the city scape and changed the opacity and the color so that it would be a prominent watermark. Then, I merged the tree and the city scape images, and resized it to fit them into the outline of the business card. I then transferred the ai. file into InDesign and Exported it as a JPEG and PDF.

BROCHURE
Date: 7/13/13 Course Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools Used: InDesign Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Process: I began by opening an InDesign document with two 8.511 pages. I then dragged the lines from the rulers to set the tri-fold layout and determine where I would place my photos and text. I then used the pen tool to outline a city skyline, and resized it to fit the page size. I then used the pen tool to repeat the same process, outlining separate buildings, a forest, and a small bird. I chose to use the colors from my business card in a previous project, these colors were used for the city skyline, and the forest that created the repetition for the background of the brochure. I mimicked a similar layout for the placement of the skyline and the forest on the inside as I did the buildings and skyline on the front of the brochure. I used my logo from previous assignments and change the color and size of it, then placed it on the front of the page. When I inserted the photos into the different folds of the brochure I used a similar color scheme of muted background with lush green as

IMAGING
Description: A photo taken by me, then edited and formatted using Adobe Photoshop. Date:5/24/13 Course/Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools: iPhone Camera, Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: This photo was taken by the camera on my iPhone, despite the low quality of the phone camera, the photo turned out nicely. I uploaded the photo onto my computer then opened it with Adobe Photoshop. I used the crop tool to get this image to fit the 6X6 size requirement. I selected everything in the photo, except for the sky, and desaturated it. After desaturating the majority of the image I used the magnetic lasso tool to make sure I selected the entire sky without including other parts of the scenery. I then colorized this portion of the photo and applied the Texturizer filter.

LOGOS
Description: Three different logos for the same company. Date: 6/8/13 Course Unstructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator Objectives: Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator. Process: I began by using the Line Segment tool to create the shape of the first logo, to create the leaves on the first logo I used the Ellipse tool. I then downloaded a text from dafont.com and used that for the first logo. Next, I used the ellipse tool to create the circular logo, I then used the pen tool to trace the city skyline from a photo, the flower was created with the Ellipse tool and the Blob brush tool. The last logo was the simplest to create, I copied the flower from the second logo and then changed

WEB PAGE
Description: A personalized web page to display a personally designed company logo and its description. Date: 6/29/13 Course Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools Used: TextWrangler & Photoshop Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Process: To create this webpage I used the program TextWrangler. This is the first time I have ever created any HTML/CSS code. The code consisted of symbols and letters, and I am fascinated by how a certain combination of words and codes can create a webpage. In order to ensure that my code was correct I used http://www. W3.org to validate my code. Once I had completed the process of creating the HTML code and editing any errors I had, I opened the pre-made CSS file and made my adjustments to that code. I changed the text, color, and colors to match the theme of my logo. In order to match the colors Id used on my business card, I opened up the image of my business card in photoshop and used the eyedropper tool to get the exact colors. For my text, I decided to repeat the same font I chose for my business cards. For the headers I decided on 1942 Report, which made it necessary for me to embed the font into the code in order to ensure others saw my text if they did not have that font on their computer. For the body of the webpage I used Calibri. To change the corners on the pre-made CSS file I removed the web kit radius that was inserted into the code.

EVENT AD
Description: This is an Event Ad that is in color, and full-bleed. The purpose of this Event Ad is to promote a fundraiser, the only program and tool used were Microsoft Word and a scanner. Date: 5/18/13 Course/Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools: Microsoft Word, HP Scanner, PDF Converter Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: First, I scanned the image of the walking woman from a magazine, then used Word to eliminate all of the background. Next, I scanned the image used for the watermark, and the two shoe images were scanned in following the watermark image. I then chose a title font and organized the layout of the images before inserting the text boxes. I used a maroon color for the title and underlining to create repitition, and organization. I then added the body text in the center and the date, time, and place on top in order to create flow.

LETTER HEAD
Description: A letterhead for a company I created Course Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator & InDesign Objectives: : Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign Process: I created the letterhead in an 8 1/2 x 11 format. I placed the logo in the middle and the company name beneath it. I created a line with the Line Tool and then copied the line and pasted it, then dragged it to the bottom to create symmetry. I copied the city scape from the business cards and pasted it into the letterhead and blew up the shape to fit the page, then changed the opacity to 30% due to the color being so light already. I made the size of the company name at about 14pt, then I made the rest of the text 8pt to create contrast.

FLIER
Description: This black and white flier is used to advertise a Graduate Leadership Conference that will help graduating seniors gain leadership skills for the work place. Date: 5/11/13 Course/Instructor: Eric Lybbert Program(s)/Tools: InDesign Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact Process: To create this flier I used InDesign with photos, and a logo from ilearn. I began by drawing four rough drafts of possible layouts and techniques that could be used on the final draft. The hand-drawn draft was submitted, followed by a rough draft that was evaluated by class mates and my instructor. When it was evaluated, my classmates and instructor were very instrumental in helping me see what would be more cohesive, and how I could rearrange the photo and text box and play with shapes to come up with the final result. With suggestions and direction from others, I was able to complete the final draft using InDesign.
