On Thursday July 25, there will be a large group of Classic Cars stopping in at Merritt, on their way to Puyallup Washington. They will spend the evening in Merritt and heading out Friday morning to complete their 5-day 2500+km trip from Winnipeg to Puyallup on the Western Canada PowerCruise 2013.

A Forest Practices Board investigation into govt inspections of compliance with forest and range practice legislation found that the number of inspections is 1/3 of what it was a few years ago. Inspections decreased for a variety of reasons, one of which was the 2010 consolidation of natural resource ministries that now sees fewer natural resource officers inspecting a much greater number and type of activities on Crown land, ie inspecting dams, recreation activities, illegal structures like cabins and docks, litter, open burning, etc. As a result of this investigation, the board recommends improvements to how the government records and reports industry compliance. The Forest Practices Board is BC's independent watchdog for sound forest and range practices, reporting findings & recommendations directly to the public & govt. The board can investigate and report on current forestry and range issues and make recommendations for improvement to practices and legislation.
