STABBING INCIDENT AT GARAGE
You will hear an audio script concerning a mission-related topic. This script will be
followed by a conversation between two persons. This conversation will relate to the
script, you will hear the tape only once. You will make notes of the script and of the
conversation and from these notes you will have been instructed either to answer 10
(ten) questions or complete a written report of the incident. Good Luck.
PAUSE
On Monday 5 May 2003, at 10.00 hours, a stabbing incident was reported to the Police
Station # 6. The caller stated that the incident had occurred in the garage that was located at
grid reference 153-478. Immediately, a police patrol was dispatched to the scene of the
incident.
On arrival at the scene of the incident at 10.15 hours the officers observed, that the 50-yearold male garage owner was lying on the floor in the garage and bleeding. He had been stabbed
a number of times in the left side of his chest. Due to the very serious condition of the garage
owners wounds the officers decided to immediately transport the victim by ambulance to the
local hospital for treatment.
The twenty two year old male witness to the incident said that at 09.45 hours, while he was 20
meters away from the incident, he observed the garage owner and the offender. It was a male
about forty years of age, 185 cm tall, very slim build, with black hair, dressed in blue jeans
costume, white shirt and black shoes, arguing loudly with the garage owner.
The argument was concerning the 450-euro repair cost that he was being charged on his
yellow, van type vehicle, license # 273-KS-846. The witness then stated that he observed the
offender removed a knife from his pocket with his right hand and stab the garage owner in the
chest three times, and then put the knife back in his pocket.
Further interview of the witness revealed that he was the unemployed nephew of the garage
owner and resided at the Airport Street -39, grid reference 256-384.
The witness stated that he had never seen the offender in the garage before the incident
happened. The witness also added that the offender, after having stabbed 3 times the garage
owner, drove away at a very high speed from the garage in the north direction.
The witness further advised that as the offender was getting into his vehicle he noticed that he
had bloodstains on his white shirt and on the jacket.
The officers proceeded to the local hospital to interview the victim of the stabbing and to
obtain further information about the identity of the offender. Upon arrival at the local hospital
the attending doctor advised the officers, that the victim was not awake and was unable to
speak with them for several days due to his very serious condition.
The doctor gave the telephone number of the hospital as 516-832 and told the officers that
they could telephone the hospital and enquire about condition of the victim not earlier than the
next morning.
The investigation into the incident of the stabbing is continuing.
For interview the witness was asked to come to the police station the same day.
The following conversation is the dialogue between the police officer and the witness of this
incident.

Police officer: Good morning. Thank you for coming to station # 6 to talk to me.
Witness: You are welcome. I want the offender arrested for stabbing my uncle.
Police officer: Could you please tell me where do you reside?
Witness: I reside at the Airport Street 39.
Police officer: Please, show me on the map we do you live.
Witness: This is at grid reference 256-384.
Police officer: What is your occupation?
Witness: I am unemployed, and looking for work at this time.
Police officer: Could you tell me when the incident happened?
Witness: It happened at 09.45 hours on Monday 5 May 2003
Police officer: Can you tell me what happened?
Witness: While I was walking over to see my uncle at the garage. I saw that my uncle was
having an argument with a man that I had never seen at the garage before.
Police officer: OK, what is the location of the garage?
Witness: The garage is located at grid reference 153-478
Police officer: How far away from the incident were you?
Witness: I was twenty meters away from the argument?
Police officer: Could you describe the offender?
Witness: He was about 40 years of age, 185 cm tall, very slim build, with black hair, dressed
in blue jeans costume, white shirt and black shoes.
Police officer: What was the subject of the argument?
Witness: The argument was concerning the 450-euro bill for the repair cost to the offenders
vehicle.
Police officer: Do you remember what was the color, type and license number of the car?
Witness: It was a yellow colored van type vehicle, license # 273 KS 846.
Police officer: What happened during the argument?
Witness: I saw the offender removed a knife, with his right hand, from the pocket, and
stabbed my uncle in the chest three times, and then I saw the offender put the knife back in his
coat pocket.
Police officer: What else do you remember?
Witness: When the offender was getting into his vehicle I noticed that his jacket and white
shirt were blood stained.
Police officer: What else do you remember?
Witness: I saw the offender drove away at a very high speed in the North direction.
Police officer: Is there anything else that you can tell me?
Witness: Actually I have nothing to add and would like to ask you if you know anything
about the condition of my uncle?
Police officer: The doctor advised us, that the condition was very serious, and gave us the
telephone number of the hospital as 516-832.
Witness: Can we call now?
Police officer: The attending doctor advised, that we could enquire about condition of the
victim not earlier than the next morning.
Witness: Is the interview over?
Police officer: The interview is over. Thank you for coming in. We will keep you advised on
the investigation.
Witness: Thank you. Good-bye.
