DV 4205 Design Basics 5 credits Objective: This course aims at the knowledge and understanding of two dimensional basic design. Provides knowledge of design principles, elements, process, and organization. Various techniques, visual aspects of various characteristics of media, and creativity are practiced. Topics: - Design elements and principles Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4241 Typography 1 4 credits Objective: Introduction to typography as an essential factor in visual communication design. Introduction to various typefaces, and its use in character and sensitivity. Topics: - History and development from anatomical typography through combination typefaces - Typographical functions in communication Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (6 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4209 Drawing 3 credits Objective: In this course, students will acquire drawing basics as visual language and expression in conveying and exploring ideas. Students will refine the skill in using drawing as a means to communicate their expressions and exploration of ideas, as a means of internal and external communication. Topics: - Visual elements and composition. Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (4 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4201 Art History 1 2 credits Objective: General historical knowledge of various aspects of culture, art, and religion of different nations. Students will be able to analyze and explain those aspects through projects. Topics: - Prehistory - Egypt, Crete, Mesopotamia, Ancient Greece, Byzantium, Renaissance Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4326 Copywriting 2 credits Objective: General practical knowledge of copywriting requirements, from planning to implementation. Students will be able to improve their creativity in writing for a range of disciplines and media. Topics: - Creative persuasion - Media and its creative language Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DU 4167 Philosophy of Religion 2 credits Objective: To understand about the quintessence of religion, the truth of faith, getting to know God, and His salvation works. DV 4321 Visual Perception 5 credits Objective: This course aims at the knowledge and understanding of visual thinking and language. Provides knowledge of gestalt and visual literacy exercises. Topics: - Visual perception - Gestalt Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass Design Basics DV 4242 Typography 2 4 credits Objective: An understanding of typography as a means of visual communication with an artistic expression. Development of sensitivities of the correct, aesthetical, and functional use of typography as a design element. Enhancing creativity through making and explaining typography works. Topics: - Typographical expression - Designing a typeface through software Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (6 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass Typography 1 DV 4322 Design Sketch 3 credits Objective: An understanding and capability of sketching as a means of generating and communicating ideas in visual communication design. Development of sensitivities of the aesthetical and functional use of sketches as a design element and communication means. Topics: - Design sketches for various visual communication purposes Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (4 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass Drawing DV 4202 Art History 2 2 credits Objective: Students gain knowledge about the development of western art that covers characteristics from a range of periods. -Isms and their backgrounds of forthcomings, their main figures, and their effects on art in Indonesia. Topics: th - Various prominent and significant aspects in art history from Renaissance, Gothic, to the 20 century. Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4219 Perception Psychology 2 credits Objective: The understanding of the meaning of perception in psychology, and several aspects of personality and culture that influence perception. Perception also means not only about individual perception but also mass perception, especially that relates to visual design. Topics: - Psychological aspects of perceptions between sensory functions - Intelligence, thought, memory, fantasy, association, cognition, emotion, etc. - Visual communication process - The psychology of color Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none

DV 4255 VCD 1 5 credits Objective: Students understand, create, and implement visual elements as effective and efficient symbols for information design. Topics: - Semiotics (Icon, Index, Symbol) - Realist decorative - Infographics (Charts, Sign System, Pictograms, Maps) Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass Visual Perception DV 4247 Illustration 1 3 credits Objective: An understanding of illustration as a means of visual communication design and art. The development of technical skill to convey ideas into illustrations. The ability to effectively plan and produce communicative illustrations. DV 4221 Graphic Production Process 2 credits Objective: A basic knowledge of the history and various techniques of printing that can be applied to the visual communication design process. And an understanding of terms used in the graphics world. DV 4256 VCD 2 5 credits Objective: Students utilize design elements in creating design for public communication. Creating and working with aspects of public perceptions in creating meaning for logos and corporate or institutional identity. Topics: - From message to visual communication - Visual communication system, graphical system, and corporate identity Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass VCD 1 DV 4248 Illustration 2 3 credits Objective: To build an effective skill in translating ideas or messages into creative visual form. Understanding different criteria in illustration in relevance to visual communication design. Topics: - Picture, Illustration, Illumination - Exercises in illustration for products, print materials, or everyday objects in graphics Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (4 hrs) Prerequisite: must complete Illustration 1 DV 4252 Computer Graphics 2 2 credits Objective: A knowledgeable skill in image editing and raster based editing techniques and its application in various design cases. DV 4257 VCD 3 5 credits Objective: Students gain new perspectives in graphic design, understand the relationships between verbal and visual, and able to be a problem solver in the community by effectively using targeted media. Topics: - User interface - 2D & 3D modeling, surface modeling, box modeling - Lighting, material - Camera, animation, particles Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (1 hr) Prerequisite: must pass Computer Graphics 2 DV 4275 Audio Visual 1 2 credits Objective: Students understand and learn to implement audio visual production stages, from the camera angle takes, production book, and audio dubbing. DV 4258 VCD 4 5 credits Objective: Students gain perspective about the relationships between message content, target, and communication strategy through choice of image and visual communication media that are integrated. Topics: - Media communication and market competition through ads - Positioning, Advertisement case studies, image development, and targeting - Visual and media strategies for consumer goods - Partial survey and creating ads through targeted and integrated comprehensive design package - Integrated Marketing Communication Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass VCD 3 DV 4277 Audio Visual 2 2 credits Objective: Students learn and understand how to implement audio visual production stages professionally. Topics: - Video clips and TVC - Tasks in commercials, budgeting - Film and TV production, production book Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (1 hr) Prerequisite: must complete Audio Visual 1 DV 4231 Research Methods 2 credits (offered every semester) Objective: To help students learn and understand theoretically and practically the methodology of research, so they can plan and execute an academic research independently. ELECTIVE COURSES*: DV 4309 Advertising* 2 credits Objective: To be able to communicate a message verbally and visually by paying attention to aspects of a brands essence. Students conduct a simple research about a products insight and customers insight. This elective course focuses on creative ideas through the process of strategy decision before the execution stage. DV 4271 Social Psychology 2 credits Objective: To gain knowledge and understanding about social psychology and all its aspects, including how to think and act or behave in facing students academic duties, and also problems that may arise from the wider so cial environment. Topics: - Aspects of Social Psychology - Various social phenomena - Social motives and their characteristics in the way of thinking and behavior Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4293 Art Sociology 2 credits Objective: To improve knowledge of the relationships between art, artistic creativity process, and societys art products. And also about arts relationships with social class, tradition, and politics. Students gain understa nding about sociology in terms of art, which includes literature, visual art, music, film, and architecture. Topics: - Relationships between art, artistic creativity, and society - Sociology with the focus on art Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4273 Management 2 credits Objective: To understand the basics of economic activities, its conjuncture and variables. And to study about organizational plan, mission, SWOT analysis, and human resource aspects. To also learn about basic marketing, especially mixed marketing, segmentation, product positioning, and advertising management. DV 4259 VCD 5 5 credits Objective: Students learn to sort out, analyze, and make decisions in design planning, and also about integrated teamwork and each members part and discipline. This is a preparation course before final project. It aims at problem solving and its application to create functional and applicative design works, and developing a portfolio. Topics: - Design styles, new media, digital media, modern packaging, interactive media, essay photography - Choosing, analyzing, creating surveys, and presenting a factual topic in a forum - Developing a portfolio Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (10 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass VCD 4 DV 4301 Seminar 3 credits (offered every semester) Objective: The ability to present and discuss textual work in a seminar forum as a basis for writing a thesis. Topics: - What is a seminar - Its organization and management - Pluses and minuses of seminar compared to other academic forums - Writing a personal research topic and presenting it in a seminar Methods: Lecture (3 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass VCD 4 and Research Methods DV 4501 Internship 6 credits (offered every semester) Objective: Students will have the chance to gain real life practical experience and training that is appropriate to his/her desired profession, and can develop a report from the internship. 8th SEMESTER
DV 4999 Final Project 10 credits (offered every semester) Objective: Students will be a visual communication designer that is competent in problem solving and explaining underlying concepts and design methods within the confines of aesthetics and science. Topics: - Final project - Thesis paper - Presentation Methods: Independently with supervision from advisors Prerequisite: must pass all courses with a minimum of 134 credits
