Shankara Shivagana Humanities 201 Rama shares several traits with the heroes Arthur, Sigurd, and Gilgamesh,

but also has several differences with them. These Heroes are more or less like Rama in certain situations, and in certan times in their quests or journeys, Such as the similaire idea of the importants of Loyalty and Duty shared by all these heroes at one time or another. Also, the idea of fame, and avoiding infame, seems to be most important to Rama, Sigurd, and Gilgamesh, but Arthurs fear of loosing power drives him to commit a hanious act. Loyalty and duty in any form, to your people in the case of a king, to your clan or poeple, and filial duty are usualy highly emphasized in the telling of heroic tales. For instance; Rama is exiled by his father, because his wife Kiekey wanted her son, Ramas half brother, Bharata to be made king, Rama, in perfect filial duty and following his darma, made no protest and followed his fathers orders. Even when Ramas half brother Lakshmana says QUOTES, Rama still follows his fathers orders without question, and goes into exile. Afterwerds, Bharata tries to give the crown back to Rama, but is refused because Rama wishes to follow the orders of his father, Drashta, Rama says to Bharata QUOTES. A difference with Arthur to Rama is that Arthur does fail his poeple and betrays his loyalty to them once. When Merlin tells arthur QUOTES, Arthur decides to follow the advice, and his people become upset at this develish act. Similair to Rama tho, is Sigurd and Brunhild, Sigurds love for Brunhild is second to his loyalty to his clan, or in this case, his adopted clan, so Sigurd makes no attempt to regain Brunhild for himself at first, but does eventualy Decide that hed rather have her *ADD QUOTES*. In Gilgameshs early life, he was said to be a selfish and an arrogant man, who disturbed his poeple, which is different then all the other heroes. Gilgamesh had to be taught humulity by the gods. So Gilgamesh is different than Rama in the way that he learns some of his heroic traits. *ADD QUOTES*. All these heroes emphasize loyalty, The idea that fame was more important in life then enjoyement and material posetions and that Infame was always too be avoided was held in high regard by all most all of these heroes. For example, even though Rama went through great trouble to rescue Sita, and aperantly had no doubt of her loyalty and chasity, in the end he gave her up do to the fact that his people doubted her chastity and loyalty to Rama, which could cause infame *ADD QUOTES*. Sigurd always new he would die young, But intead of trying to avoid his fate he tried to establish his name in legend to live forever.*ADD QUOTES*. Gilgamesh also holds the need for fame in high regard, for example, when he wants to kill Hambaba, even though his best friend the powerfull Enkidu is afraid, Gilgamesh is not. But Gilgamesh does fear death in the end, and attempts to gain immortality *ADD QUOTES*. In Contrast to this, Arthur gives in to his weakness, and follows advice from Merlin and kills a whole villages new born male sons in order to avoid his prophisized downfall. *Punish evil beings/people* same as Arthur, *Conclusion*
