SECTION 12485 FOOT GRILLES

PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SECTION INCLUDES A. 1.2 Recessed foot grilles and frames, as shown on drawings.

SUBMITTALS A. B. Product Data: For each type of foot grille and frame indicated. Shop Drawings: Show fabrication, assembly, joint locations, installation details, layout, plans, elevations, full-scale sections, details of patterns or designs, anchors, and accessories for foot grilles and frames. Samples: 300-mm square assembled sections of foot grille, frame members, and tread rails with selected tread surface of each type of metal finish and color of exposed grille treads, tread rails, frames, and accessories required. Maintenance data.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS A. Extruded Aluminum: ASTM B 221M, alloy 6061-T6 or alloy 6063-T5, T6, or T52 as standard with manufacturer. Coat surface of frame in contact with cementitious materials with manufacturer's standard protective coating.

FOOT GRILLES A. Aluminum Foot Grilles: 1. 2. 3. 4. B. Tread Rail Spacing: 6-mm wide openings between treads. Top Surfaced: Serrated aluminum. Finish: Class II color anodic coating complying with AAMA 611. Color: As selected from manufacturer's full range.

Manufacturer's standard frames of size and style for grille type, for permanent recessed installation in subfloor, complete with installation anchorages and accessories. Unless otherwise indicated, fabricate frame of same material and finish as grilles. Drainage Pit Support System: Manufacturer's special deep-pit frame and support extrusion system with intermediate support beams, sized and spaced as recommended by manufacturer for indicated spans and equipped with vinyl support cushions.

Manufacturer's standard 1.5-mm thick, metal sheet drain pan with DN 50 drain outlet for each floor grille unit. Coat bottom of pan with protective coating recommended by manufacturer. Drain Pan Material: Aluminum.

FABRICATION A. Shop fabricate foot grilles to the greatest extent possible. If not otherwise indicated, provide each grille as a single unit; do not exceed manufacturer's recommended maximum sizes for units that are removed for maintenance and cleaning. Where joints in grilles are necessary, space symmetrically and away from normal traffic lanes. Fabricate frame members in single lengths or, where frame dimensions exceed maximum available lengths, provide minimum number of pieces possible, with hairline joints equally spaced and pieces spliced together by straight connecting pins.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. Examine floor conditions for compliance with location and size requirements. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Install components with top of foot grilles and frames in relationship to one another and to adjoining finished flooring as recommended in writing by manufacturer. After completing frame installations, provide temporary filler of plywood or fiberboard in foot grille recesses and cover frames with plywood protective flooring. Maintain protection until Substantial Completion. END OF SECTION
