Short Story Competition Terms and Conditions - 2013

1. Information on how to enter forms part of the Terms and Conditions of entry. Entry into the Short Story Competition is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. 2. The Promoter is Frankston City Council (ABN 4945 4768 065), Davey Street, Frankston VIC 3199 Eligibility 3. Entry is open to Frankston residents, for children aged 8 15 years of age. 4. Stories entered MUST be written by the entrant. Any entry which is found to have not been written by the person submitting it will be automatically ineligible. 5. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries, and personal details concerning entrants. 6. The Promotion commences at 09:00am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Thursday, 1 August 2013 and closes at 11:59pm (AEST) on Saturday, 31 August 2013 (Promotion Period). Only entries that are received in accordance with these Terms and Conditions during the Promotion Period will be eligible for entry. Competition Entry 7. Entry is free. 8. There are two categories for entries: 8-12 years (500 words max) 13-15 years (1000 words max) 9. Entries that exceed the maximum word limit will not be eligible for judging. 10. Entries must be typed in 12 point font, with one and half line spacing and pages numbered. Handwritten entries will be acceptable; however they MUST be clear and legible in order to be considered. 11. Entrants, as aged under 18, must submit their entry with a parent or legal guardians signature. 12. Incomplete, indecipherable, or illegal entries will be deemed invalid. 13. Stories used for prior promotional purposes and/or which have been used for commercial purposes are ineligible. (Please note, this does NOT include community publications or blogs) 14. Stories must be entered along with the entrants full name and address, phone number and email. 15. Email entries to libraryenquiries@frankston.vic.gov.au with the subject line Frankston City Libraries 2013 Short Story Competition. Entries can be hand delivered or posted and should be addressed to Frankston City Libraries 2013 Short Story Competition, 60 Playne St, Frankston, 3199. 16. As a condition of entering this competition, all entrants grant the Promoter the right to publish the entry in part or full and use their image/s in Frankston City Council and Frankston Tourism promotional material. 17. Personal details will only be used for the purposes of this competition. Any information you provide will be processed and held by Frankston City Libraries and will be safeguarded under the Privacy Act 1988. Judging 18. Each entry will be individually judged based on artistic and creative merit by a panel of judges appointed by the Promoter. The best three stories per category as determined by the judges will be deemed the winners of the first, second and third place prizes.

19. The judges decision is final and correspondence will not be entered into. 20. Winning entries must demonstrate a strong plot, good character development and be able to entertain. The judges will be looking for entries that demonstrate examples of these requirements. 21. All winners will be notified by phone or email by Monday, 23 September 2013 and their names will be published on the Promoters website and in media and public relations material.

Prizes 22. Category 8-12 years 1st Prize: $75 Book Voucher 2nd Prize: $50 Book Voucher 3rd Prize: $20 Book Voucher 23. Category 13-15 years 1st Prize: $100 Book Voucher 2nd Prize $75 Book Voucher 3rd Prize $50 Book Voucher 24. Each prize must be taken as stated and no compensation will be payable if a winner is unable to use the prize as stated. Prizes are not exchangeable for other goods or services. A prize cannot be transferred to any other person, unless agreed to by the Promoter. 25. The Promoter reserves the right to forfeit prize/s in the event of an entrant being unable to satisfy these promotion terms and conditions or not claiming a prize. For any prize that remains unclaimed on 30 September 2013 they will become void. No further winners will be announced. 26. As the winner of a prize will be under 18 years of age, when their prize is awarded, they must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
