INTRODUCTION

Production organization and human resources management are the main area which the project manger has to understand deeply, because construction projects are depend on the performance of the project manager, when he managing and maintaining the product and the human resources well, they can success in the project. As I worked as a trainee in Water Supply project which undertaken by Sierra construction Pvt ltd, at Muthur in Trincomalee district, I could observe more knowledge, it was more helpful to complete this project successfully. Also I explained every task with getting the sound knowledge from actual project professionals, because I had a good relationship with them due to worked in an organization, therefore I could get the necessary information from them.

EXECUTIVE SUMMERY
This report mainly refer such areas of duties and responsibility of project manager, and mainly targeting the water supply project, because he have huge responsibility of managing this project, therefore I have done this report by indicating the major duties and knowledge which project manager has to know Also I have prepared this report based on the water supply project, as a project manager he has to have knowledge in some critical areas, I have analyzed in following way: Planning the project in different stages such as pre tender and pre contract Usage of planning tools such as net work diagram, Gantt chart and base line curve Managing sub contractors with proper planning and controlling Managing the risks which occur during the project Usage of information technology and software to communicate with the parties involving in the project Understanding of human capital and recruit them in proper manner by training and promoting them.

Addition to that I have compared each one with water supply project.

INTRODUCTION ABOUT PROPOSED WATER SUPPLY PROJECT The local water supply authority has received a loan grant from an international agency for a project to upgrade and expand the water supply facilities for the neighboring community, the grant will be released in three stages of total project period, and it was planned to execute the project within four years, therefore the main project sub divided into no of sub projects to handle easily as follow. Construction of elevated water tower Laying distribution pipe Construction of treatment plant Flash mixing chamber Flocculate & sedimentation tank Filter house Clear water tank High lift pump house Back off recovery tank Sludge balancing tank Sludge pump house Plate thickener Sludge drying beds Chlorinator house Chemical building Administration and laboratory General store & workshop

CONCLUSION

Construction industry one of the fast growing industries in the world, therefore managing the productivity of the organization and human capitals in this industry are considered as major critical activities. Therefore project managers are appointed to handle these activities with their professionalism, so they expected to have deep knowledge in such areas. Therefore this report mainly indicates those areas, and suggests how to handle those areas in professional manner, also it has prepared based on the case study, by meeting the industry working people, and getting knowledge from them. I hope it will be useful for the construction professionals, who are working and studying in construction related field and study.
