RECAP: The Rainiers lost their 6th straight game losing 4-2 to Omaha on Thursday night. CF
Abraham Almonte (1x5, 2B), 2B Ty Kelly (1x4, BB), RF Franklin Gutierrez (1x5, 2B), 1B Jesus
Montero (1x3, R, 2B, 2 BB), LF Stefen Romero (1x4, R) and SS Carlos Triunfel (1x4, RBI) each
recorded 1 of the Rainiers 6 hits. Starter James Paxton (3.0,7,4,3,1,3) recorded his 9th loss of the
season, allowing 4 runs (3 ER) on 7 hits in 3.0 innings. Relievers RH Chance Ruffin
(2.0,0,0,0,0,1), RH Brian Sweeney (2.0,2,0,0,0,5), RH Carter Capps (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) and LH
Bobby LaFromboise (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) combined to allow only 3 hits and struck out 8 in the 6.0
scoreless innings.
REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Franklin Gutierrez began his third rehabilitation assignment with
Tacoma on July 19. He went 1-for-5 with a double yesterday. Overall he is batting .217 (30x138)
with 19 runs scored, 10 doubles, 3 home runs, 20 RBI, 10 walks and 2 stolen bases in 33 games
with AAA Tacoma. Gutierrez was placed on the 15-day DL on June 25 with a strained right
hamstring. He appeared in 2 games (June 22-23) after being activated from the disabled list on
June 22. Gutierrez was on the disabled list from April 23-June 21 with the same injury (right
hamstring strain). Gutierrez was batting .267 (15x60) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, 5 home runs (3
leadoff HR) and 11 RBI in 18 games (15 GS in CF) this season for Seattle. This is the 6th trip to the
DL for Gutierrez since the start of the 2011 season. RH Stephen Pryor began his first rehab
assignment on July 19. In 4 appearances with Tacoma he is 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA (5 ER, 3.0 IP).
He also made a rehab start on July 16 with Short-A Everett, allowing 3 runs (2 ER) on 3 hits with 1
strikeout and 1 balk before being removed after reaching his pitch limit. Pryor was placed on the
15-day DL with a tear in his right latissimus dorsi muscle on April 15. Pryor appeared in 7 of
Seattles first 14 games this season. He did not allow a run in 7.1 innings while striking out 7 and
allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk.

OF NOTE: INF/OF Nate Tenbrink has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games, batting .355 (11x31) with
9 runs scored, 1 double, 4 home runs, 9 RBI, 7 walks and 1 stolen base. INF Ty Kelly has hit safely in 17 of 24 games since being
acquired, batting .326 (29x89) with 15 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 20 walks. INF Carlos Triunfel has hit safey in each
of his last 6 games, batting .318 (7x22) with 1 runs scored, 1 double, 2 RBI and 2 walks. OF Carlos Peguero is the 2nd Rainiers player to
collect 6 hits in a game this season (7/26 at Reno), and the first since OF Abraham Almonte went 6-for-6 at Colorado Springs on May 29.
Prior to Almonte, Tacoma had not had a player collect at least 6 hits in a single game since Jerry Owens on August, 29, 2009. The Rainiers
have now had 5 different players collect at least 5 hits in a single game this season (Carlos Triunfel, Nick Franklin, Abraham Almonte,
Dustin Ackley, Carlos Peguero). The rest of the league combined has had just 10 players turn in five-hit efforts in 2013. Before Tacomas
current campaign, the Rainiers had not featured two players with five-hit games since their 2007 season (Adam Jones and Wladimir
Balentien). LHP James Paxton recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno. It marked his 9th career start recording at
least 10 strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13 at New Orleans). RHP Taijuan Walker tossed 14.0 scoreless innings over his first 3 AAA starts, before
allowing a solo home run in the 5th inning on July 7 at Salt Lake. Overall he is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA (11 ER, 32.0 IP) in 6 starts with
Tacoma. He has limited opponents to a .234 (29x121) average, while walking 12 and striking out 33. Walker is currently the youngest
player in the PCL this season and 2nd-youngest in Triple-A. He made his Triple-A debut vs. Fresno on June 25 at Cheney Stadium (W,
6.0,3,0,0,2,4). Walker is the youngest Rainiers pitcher to make his Triple-A debut since a 19-year-old Felix Hernandez on April 8, 2005 at
Fresno.

RECAP: The Generals scored 5 runs over the first 3 innings, including a 2-run home run by LF Joe
Dunigan in a 3-run 3rd innings as Jackson defeated Huntsville 5-2 on Thursday night. Dunigan
(2x4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI), who recently returned from the DL, hit his first home run with Jackson and
also led the team with 2 hits. 2B Chris Taylor (1x5, R), RF James Jones (1x1, 2 BB), DH Ji-Man
Choi (1x2, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB), C John Hicks (1x3, R, 2B, RBI, BB), 1B Daniel Paolini (1x3, 2B,
RBI, BB) and SS Gabriel Noriega (1x3, BB) each recorded 1 of the teams 8 hits. Starter Trevor
Miller (6.0,5,2,2,2,4,HR) recorded his first career AA win, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits in 6.0 innings.
LH Kyle Hunter (1.2,2,0,0,1,2) and RH Carson Smith (1.1,1,0,0,0,2) combined to strikeout 4
batters over the final 3.0 innings in relief. Smith recorded his 11 save of the season after recording
the final 4 outs in the game.
OF NOTE: INF Ji-Man Choi is batting .395 (17x43) with 6 runs scored, 8 extra-base hits (4-2B, 23B, 2-HR), 14 RBI and 10 walks in last 12 games. C John Hicks has hit safely in 7 of his last 8
games, batting .370 (10x27) with 4 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run, 5 RBI and 8 walks. After
allowing 5 runs over his first 6 appearances of the season, RH Carson Smith has allowed only 5
earned runs over his last 30 relief appearances. During this stretch he is 0-1 with 7 saves and a
1.36 ERA (5 ER, 33.0 IP). Since April 22, Smith has lowered his ERA from 8.44 to 2.35. Smith has

defeated Beloit 15-6 on Thursday night. All 9 starters in the LumberKings lineup recorded at least 1 hit, including multi-hit games by 2B
Ketel Marte (4x6, R, 2B, RBI), LF Jamodrick McGruder (3x5, 2 R, SB), DH Jordy Lara (3x4, 3 R, HR, 5 RBI, BB), 3B D.J. Peterson
(3x5, 3 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI), CF Janelfry Zorrilla (3x5, R, 2 2B, RBI), RF Alfredo Morales (2x5, 2 R, RBI, SB) and C Marcus Littlewood
(2x4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB). Lara hit his 10th home run of the season with a 3-run blast in the first inning and set a season-high with 5 RBI.
Peterson fell a double short hitting for the cycle, including recording his 3rd home run with Clinton. Of Petersons 7 hits with the
LumberKings, 5 have gone for extra bases (2B, 3B, 3-HR). Starter Charles Kaalekahi (6.0,7,6,5,3,1,3HR) recorded his 5th win of the
season, despite allowing 6 runs (5 ER) on 7 hits in 6.0 innings. RH Jochi Ogando (3.0,1,0,0,0,2) allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 in 3.0
scoreless innings to earn his 3rd save of the season.

Justin Seager (2x4, R, RBI) and DH Chantz Mack (2x3, R, 2B, RBI) each recorded 2 of Everetts 11 hits, while C Carlton Tanabe (1x4,
R, HR, RBI) hit his 2nd home run of the season with a solo blast in the 2nd inning. Starter Thyago Vieira (4.2,4,0,0,2,7) struck out 7 in 4.2
scoreless innings, but did not figure into the decision. LH Tyler Olson (1.1,0,0,0,0,0) recorded the win his his first relief appearance of the
season, retiring all 4 batters he faced. RH Richard White (2.0,1,1,1,0,3,HR) allowed the only run of the game in the top of the 8th inning,
while RH Aaron Brooks (1.0,0,0,0,1,1) recorded the final 3 outs in the 9th inning to secure the win.
OF NOTE: RH Lars Huijer has recorded a win in each of his last 5 starts, going 4-0 with a 0.32 ERA (1 ER, 28.0 ER). He has not allowed

NORTHWEST LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RH Lars Huijer was named Northwest League Pitcher of the Week, July 22-28. A 19year-old native of the Netherlands, Huijer was solid as a reliever with Pulaski in the Appalachian League in 2012, but has made a smooth
transition to start this season with Everett. On Thursday Huijer won his 4th straight game, allowing 1 hit over 7.0 scoreless innings to
extend his personal shutout streak to 15 innings. (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 3 BB, 7 K)
NORTHWEST LEAGUE ALL-STAR TEAM: Seven players from the Everett AquaSox were named to the Northwest League Northern
Division All-Star team, including pitchers Aaron Brooks, Lars Huijer, and Jose Valdivia, catcher Carlton Tanabe and infielders D.J.
Peterson, Jack Reinheimer, and Justin Seager. The first-half division champions were rewarded for their efforts with strong showings in
both fan and manager voting as Peterson and Reinheimer were selected as starters for the leagues first All-Star Game since 2004.
Peterson will be unable to participate after recently being called up to Single-A Clinton.
In addition to the 7 Everett players that will suit up for the All-Star Game, the AquaSox coaching staff, including manager Rob Mummau,
pitching coach Rich Dorman, hitting coach Rafael Santo Domingo, head athletic trainer Spyder Webb, and performance specialist Taylor
Nakamura, will serve as the coaches for the North Division team.
The Everett AquaSox host the 2013 Northwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. This event marks the first NWL All-Star
game since 2004, and will become an annual league tradition, with a different NWL team hosting it each year.

20 RBI, 9 walks and 7 stolen bases. RH Emilio Pagan has tossed 15.1 scoreless innings, while walking 3 and striking out 24. Overall he is
1-0 with 8 saves in 11 relief appearances. LH Wander Marte has allowed on 1 hit in 10.0 innings over 10 relief appearances. He has
limited opponents to a .036 average (1x28), while walking 9 walks and 12 strikeouts. RHP Edwin Diaz allowed a home run in the bottom of
the 4th inning on July 7 at Princeton, snapping a string of 19.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run to begin the season.

at Burlington, allowing 2 runs (1 ER) on 6 hits in 4.0 innings in Pulaskis 0-4 loss. At age 16.92, Gohara is the 2nd-youngest player in the
Mariners minor league system (Jose Leal) and the youngest player in the Appalachian League this season. Gohara will turn 17 on July 31.
Overall he is 1-2 with a 4.12 ERA (9 ER, 19.2 IP) in 5 starts.
APPALACHIAN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RH Jose Flores was named Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week, July 22-28.
After allowing 7 runs on 9 hits over his previous 2 starts, Flores responded with his finest game of the year against Princeton on Thursday.
The 20-year-old right-hander fanned a season-high 9 Rays over 6.0 scoreless, 1-hit innings to improve to 3-0. Flores is holding Appy
League hitters to a .202 average overall, with right-handed hitters posting a .183 mark.
