Howdy
As technology integration specialists for a school district in Bryan, Texas, we often come across great technology resources for use in the classroom. We wanted to find a way to share these Web 2.0 and 21st century skills with not only the teachers we work with in our school district (Bryan ISD), but also the network of educators and technology specialists we continue to come in contact with. This blog will become one more way for these resources to be passed on and hopefully utilized in classrooms.

Teachers create charts by uploading actual student pictures or use the app's icons. Then arrange the charts based on learning groups or minimizing behavior issues. Keep track of each student's positive and negative behavior directly from his/her profile.

Teachers can invite other colleagues to track and analyze student behavior and attendance. Detailed reports can be gathered on individual students or entire classes.

Flashcards by Course Hero presents students and teachers an easy way to study new information.

Cards can be created or customized from the several thousand flashcards that exist already. Students can and then save and share their sets with other students. Remember, apps purchased in the Edmodo store shouldn't be confused with iTunes (or Android) apps, as these will only work inside of the Edmodo site. Posted by Troy Kuhn at 2:50 PM 0 comments

Posts All Comments

InfuseLearning is a free virtual student response solution that allows the teacher to ask assessment questions to check student mastery. Teachers can create a variety of questions and students can respond from any device. Students will simply access the student.infuselearning.com website and join the classroom using the Room ID. From the teacher dashboard, a teacher can setup classes, utilize interactive tools, and create/manage assessments. The "Quick Assessment" feature allows the teachers to ask an "on the fly" question and see student responses in real-time. Teachers can also create preprepared quizzes that allow students to complete a quiz at their own pace.

Free App Friday: Nearpod

If you have a class set of iPads or access to an iPad cart, you should be using Nearpod! Don't stop reading this post if you don't have iPads - Nearpod can also be accessed on other devices. Nearpod is a free tool that allows you to deliver synchronized, interactive, multimedia presentations to your students on their iPads. Can you say, "Active Cognitive Engagement?!" Teachers can upload presentations that they have previously created into their Nearpod account, and then add interactive features such as polls, quizzes, draw slides, and videos. The

teacher then starts a session from the Nearpod app on her iPad, and the students join the session from the app on their iPads. The teacher then controls what the students see on their screen. When the teacher advances to another slide in the presentation, the students' presentations also moves to the next slide.

Poll, Q&A, and Quiz slides allow the teacher to see real time results as students answer the questions. The teacher can choose whether to share the results with the students (names are omitted). Later, the teacher can print individual and class score reports to easily view grades for students or assess student performance.

Another interactive option is the "Draw It" feature. This type of slide allows students to use their finger to write or draw on the screen and then submit what they have drawn or written to the teacher. Once the teacher receives student's submissions (she can see who has submitted, and who hasn't), she can choose which of the drawings to push out to student's devices to generate discussion. Other neat features of Nearpod: ability to share your presentations with other teachers teachers can use "featured presentations" created by distinguished educators instead of spending time creating their own Nearpod just launched a web app that allows students to view presentations on devices other than iPads. if you really love Nearpod, you can purchase a "School Edition" with even more great features Classroom Integration Ideas: Use "Draw It" slides to have students label a map, identify parts of speech, or work a math problem. Then share a few of the outstanding drawings with students as positive reinforcement. Add quizzes throughout your presentations for quick mastery checks. Let the students be the teacher: when students deliver presentations to the class,

upload their PowerPoint to Nearpod and let students view it through the Nearpod app together in class. To get started with Nearpod, go to www.nearpod.com and set up your free teacher account. Then download the app on your iPad and your student's iPads. If you need help creating your first presentation, contact your Instructional Technology Specialist to set up a training session. Bounce

Bounce is a free Web 2.0 tool that lets you easily annotate screen captures of webpages. You can then share the images with anyone. To create your own Bounce screenshot, start by entering the URL of the website that you would like to annotate.

While the page is loading you will see why the site is named Bounce.

Once the image has loaded, you will see an image of the website along with controls at the top of the page that allow you to add annotation boxes. To add a box, click on the screenshot where youd like to leave feedback. Keep in mind that each box is numbered sequentially, so you may want to plan your order prior to use.

Once you have finished adding annotations, Bounce creates a new URL for your screen capture that you can share with others.

Socrative - "As Easy As Raising Your Hand"

The Instructional Tech team got this email from Ashley Lopez, 7th grade Texas History and TAP Mentor Teacher from SFA: "While I was working on a presentation I noticed that Socrative wasn't mentioned on the "Techy Things" Blog so I created a handout about Socrative and thought I would share it with you in case you hadn't seen this app yet. It's basically like a clicker system for the classroom but students can use their own devices or computers to respond. As well, it can send you a spreadsheet with the student responses if you wanted to use it for a quiz or test." A BIG THANKS to Ashley for allowing us to share the information from the handout she created. Socrative is a great tool to use for quick classroom polling or even assessments. The site allows you to create a teacher account that generates a specific room number that you give your student to enter on their device. Once students have entered the room, they are prompted to respond to a question you have created.

As pictured above, there are various features you can select from when choosing the type of question your want your students to respond to. Some features include quick responses that generate a visual representation of the class answers. Others require students to input their information so that a spreadsheet with response can be generated and sent to your email. The greatest thing about Socrative is that students are able to access it on their own devices, utilizing a free download for both iPhones and other smart devices, in order to respond to questions. Classroom Integration Ideas: Review games and activities Pre-planned quizzes/assessments Mastery checks or exit tickets given at the end of class Poll questions that are discussed during instructional activities

SymbalooEDU

SymbalooEDU is a web based visual organizing and sharing tool that allows you to bookmark websites which you can share or use for yourself.

Each website that you would like to bookmark is arranged in a webmix, Symbaloo's term for tile boards. Each website is represented by color tiles, which can be modified in appearance and placed wherever you like in the grid layout. Webmixes can then be shared easily with others via a URL link or a code that can be embedded in a website or blog. Just as there are differences in the use of mainstream Google and Google Apps for Education, SymbalooEDU is slightly different from Symbaloo.com. The webmixes that are given to you initially differ when using Symbaloo.com versus SymbalooEDU. SymbalooEDU accounts come with preset educational webmixes as shown below:

A new iPad version gives you access to your Symabaloo webmixes on any "iDevice."

Classroom Integration Ideas:

Create webmixes to share with your students instead of bookmarking several websites on a specific computer or iPad. Students could create their own webmixes to organize sites they frequently use in class or at home to study.
