The aim of this lesson is for students to review what has been learned over the course of the unit and to examine the following questions in light of the end of the war:

Procedures
1.

(10 minutes) Entry Slip: Based on your current knowledge, did WWI have a positive or negative impact on Canada?
The aim of this activity is for students to begin their assessment of the impact of the war

(historical signicance and identifying continuity and change)

(15 minutes) Teacher-led mini-lecture on the end of the war. Key concepts to cover:
100 Days campaign Collapse of the Central Powers The Treaty of Versailles Canadas participation in the peace

(30 minutes) Working in groups of four, or on their own, students will complete a timeline assignment that has them place the events of the First World War on the timeline according to their role in the development of Canadian political autonomy. Events will be placed in chronological order and then moved vertically according to their perceived impact on Canadian autonomy. Students can use post-it notes to place events on their timeline in order to be able to move them as necessary.

(15 minutes) Come back together as a class to complete the assignment collectively on the board. Have students come forward to place the events on the board, and ask them to give justications for their decisions. (5 minutes) Exit slip: Have students make any changes they feel are necessary to their entry slip--Did WWI have a positive or negative impact on Canada? Why or why not?
