January 27-General members meeting & potluck March 23-Historic Downtown Ontario Walking Tour. greet the winners and promote the upcoming home tour. June 8-Historic Home Tour held from 10 am to 5 pm. July 4-Ontario Heritage had an Information Booth on the parade route and sold refreshments to help raise funds for upcoming events. July 23 Ontario Heritage presents plaque to past President and Board members, Rick & Lynn Gage at the Planning Commission Meeting. After 14 years volunteering their time and expertise they submitted their resignation. We wish them the best in their new endeavors.

Thank you Ontario Heritage Board and members for the vote of confidence in electing me as your new president. Also, welcome to Louise Melton, our new Secretary and Glenn Anderson as Director of Communications. All of us on your Board are excited to be part of this organization. Please join us as we continue to encourage the preservation of Ontarios

historic heritage. We have more fun events planned for the remainder of this year. Before you read about those here are some updates of whats already happened.

This was the first year we had a booth at the June 1 Kiwanis annual pancake breakfast and Rotary Club car show. We had fun meeting new people and promoting the home tour. HERITAGE CORNER If you own a historic


property or plan to purchase one, you might want to make changes to it at some point in time. So the following question may come up, If I want to alter my historic property, what do I do? If you are considering alterations to your historic property, contact Historic Preservation Staff in the Ontario Planning Department to find out how to proceed. City staff will need you to provide a photograph (digital or hard copy) of the structure and a concept of what alterations are being considered. The concept for the alterations can be in the form of a sketch, a photograph example of what is being considered, or a Specification Sheet (from a manufacturer). If a Waiver is issued, these materials will be kept by the City and attached to the Waiver form. If the proposed alterations do not qualify for a Waiver, then a Certificate of

We are an all volunteer local non-profit organization and we need you! Is the ongoing process of preserving our historic downtown important to you? Or learning about the rich history of the Model Colony? Our Mission Statement is Preserving, Protecting and Promoting Our Model Colony not only for us but for our future generations. Having historic home tours, annual historic cemetery tours, being present at local events are all part of pursuing our mission and making the public more aware of our purpose. Its an important

Local Places to Visit!


(CCMA) CHAFFEY MUSEUM OF ART (previously was CCAA) is located at 217 S. Lemon Avenue in Ontario.
They are having their grand opening on September 15 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Admission is free. Donations are welcome! They have a beautiful permanent art collection and also display the work of current artists who are well known in the region or nationally. Visit their website at: www.ccaamuseum.org MUSEUM OF HISTORY & ART 225 S. EUCLID AVENUE, ONTARIO Admission is free. Galleries are open: Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. The purpose of the Museum of History and Art, Ontario is to promote knowledge and understanding of the history, art, and cultural traditions of the greater Ontario area. 2013 UPCOMING EVENTS MARK YOUR CALENDERS!


September 15-Ontario Heritage will have a display table at the (CCMA) Chaffey Community Museum of Arts Grand Opening which will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm. October 12Ontario Heritages 4th Annual Historic Cemetery Tour will be at Bellevue Memorial Park located at 1240 West G Street in Ontario. This event will be from 10 am to 12 noon. Tickets to be sold day of event beginning at 9:30 am. Ticket prices $10 per person. Beat the crowd and purchase presale tickets at either Logans Candy Store, 125 West B Street, Ontario or at Graber Olive House, 315 East 4th Street, Ontario. Presale tickets also $10 per person. Come visit some of Ontarios early citizens as local costumed actors bring different characters to life. Every year five different citizens are represented. November 7 Ontario Heritage MEMBERS ONLY Lunchtime Potluck/Meeting with a guest speaker. Grilled meats will be provided by Ontario Heritage. RSVP is mandatory

3 r d q u a r t e r 20 13 one week prior! Location will be the Delmans home. December 7-Ontario Heritage will have a rented booth at the annual Christmas on Euclid event which runs from 9 am to 3 pm. There will be classic cars, food, entertainment, vendors of all kinds, police & fire displays, kids attractions, etc. You might even see Santa! Come out and support this fun event that is held along historic Euclid Avenue between G Street and B Street in downtown Ontario.

& her husband, Clif Perry and to Edward & Stacy Jaureguy. The John S. Armstrong (landscaping) award went to John & Mary Federico. Andrew & Andreana Rabb received the Award of Merit for the ongoing preservation of their historic home. Those who attended the historic home tour on June 8 were delighted with the beauty and architectural styles of the houses. The homeowners pride and love of their homes, along with their amazing hospitality, made it a memorable experience for all. Volunteers were invited to the Delmans historic home for a delicious potluck meal and treated to choice meats grilled to perfection by Ontario Heritage Board. Our volunteers are special!

ROUTE 66 CRUISIN REUNION SEPTEMBER 20-22, 2013 3-day, 2 night festival of hot rods, muscle cars, customs, classic and vintage vehicles from 1900 through 1975 that park and cruise the downtown streets of Ontario, including historic Euclid Avenue. Includes vendors, entertainment, food. Friday, September 20th event hours are 6pm-10 pm. Saturday, September 21st event hours 8 am-8pm. Sunday, September 22nd event hours 8 am-4 pm.

Appropriateness application and fees must be filed. Now this brings up another question: What is a Certificate of Appropriateness? It is a permit issued by the Historic Preservation Subcommittee for any alteration, restoration, rehabilitation, addition, or relocation to any Eligible Historic Resource. It is used to ensure that any change made to a historical resource preserves the original character and architectural features of that property. The Historic Preservation Subcommittee reviews applications to determine whether or not the proposed changes are appropriate and maintain the original character and features of the historic resource. A Certificate of Appropriateness is required before any other permits can be obtained.
