Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary

WOLF TRACKS
Im not a dancer. But I love watching someone who loves to dance and does so gracefully and un-self consciously. It is a joy to behold: a dancer at one with the music, flowing and free, lost in the joy of the dance. I hold back. Im self-conscious, awkward, uncertainbut I really love music and when Im by myself I clown around and try moving to the beat of a song filtering through the speakers of a hospital elevator, or an empty grocery aisle, hoping no one is watching. On the inside, I feel like Gene Kelly; on the outside, Im sure I look like a dancing hippo from Disneys animated classic, Fantasia. Last June at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood I sat behind Matt and his Mom, Nancy during a worship service led by our Conference Youth. Matt was amazinghe worshiped with a freedom, joy and vitality that put me to shame. Every fiber of his being was given over to his worship of God: Matts hands, arms, legs, feet and whole body were lost in wonder, love and praise. I saw manifest the love of God working in a soul-at-worship right in front of me. So, whats wrong with me? Why cant I worship like Matt? Why cant any of us? Matt is a tall, goodlooking young adult who in other areas of his life is identified as a person with special needs. I think a lot of us are Special Needs Worshipers! Worship is a dance with God. We hold

Pastor Paul Wolf backdont let go, will not allow ourselves to let God take the lead, to experience the sheer exhilaration, freedom and joy of worship, the dance with God, the creator of every sinew, bone, muscle, rhythm and pulse of our bodiesto worship the Lord of the Dance in the dance of worship: free, joyful, adoring, flowing in the Spirit, carried away by the love of God wouldnt that be a taste of heaven? I think we are Special Needs Worshipers and God has infinite patience with our lifelong learning curve. Let the Spirit of God enter and lead you in the dance of worship this week; lets see what happens! Grace and peace, Pastor Paul

Top 10 Reasons to Join the Church Choir

10. Offering plate is rarely passed to the choir 9. Youre running out of clean clothes and the robe saves on laundry. 8. Its exactly like singing in the shower, except youre wearing a robe and people are actually listening. 7. Sitting with a group in the chancel every Sunday is excellent practice in case youre ever called for jury duty. 6. Theres a clock in the back of the church and you want to know when one hour has passed. 5. No matter how packed church is on Easter or Christmas, youll be assured of having a great seat in the sanctuary. 4. For years you have wanted to know who sits in the back of the church but were afraid to turn around and look. 3. Youve been known to nod off during the service and dont want the pastor to catch you. 2. Choir parties! Theyre fun! 1. You get to see the goofy faces the choir director is making when his back is turned to the congregation.

Asbury Park Mission Trip Planned

More volunteer workers are needed to have a successful mission trip October 1011 to Asbury Park Retirement Community in Newton, KS. We plan to leave around 8AM Thursday, October 10, spend one night in Newton (usually at the Holiday Inn Express) work all day Friday, the 11th, and then come home. Noon lunches are provided by Asbury Park. Men are needed to trim shrubs, women are needed to wash windows at the independent living cottages on campus. If you can only come one day - that is okay, too! Please contact Ronda in the church office or Deanne Schoenberger ASAP if you are interested!

Pantry Sunday
September 22nd will be Pantry Sunday! Our local pantries continue to have difficulty keeping up with the ever increasing demand. Your help through the donations of food or cash is immensely appreciated!

Come All Ye Faithful Class

The adult Sunday school class that meets upstairs invites you to join them. We are currently studying the twelve disciples. Following this study, we will be studying Gods Answers to Lifes Difficult Questions by Rick Warren. Class meets at 10:10 am each Sunday morning in Room 215.

Take the Cake

A young and nervous bride planning her wedding was increasingly terrified about her upcoming marriage. To calm her nerves, she decided to have a Bible verse which had always brought her comfort (1 FIRST John 4:18, "There is no fear in love; for perfect love casts out fear") engraved on her wedding cake. So she called the caterer and all arrangements were made. About a week before the wedding, she received a call from the catering company. "Is this really the verse you want on your cake?" they asked. Yes, she confirmed, it was the one she wanted, and after a few more questions they said they would decorate the cake as requested. The wedding day came, and everything was beautiful...until the reception, when the bride walked in to find the cake emblazoned with John 4:18: "For you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband."

Ladies Bible Study: JONAH, JONAH, Navigating a Life Interrupted

You cant escape lifes interruptions. They shock us; they shake us; they compel us to change. You cant escape lifes interruptions, but you can change your perspective on them. This is a 6 week study by Priscilla Shirer. We will begin meeting on Tuesday, September 17th at 9:30am and the evening group will meet Tuesday, September 17th at 5:30pm.
