System Requirements and Setup Instructions

This document contains system and software requirements required for this training and setup instructions. Please return the completed and signed checklist to HP. See page 8 for full return instructions. Courses This Document Supports:
Fundamentals of LoadRunner 9.0 (LR90-01)

Important Note:
This training runs under the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Professional (SP3 or later required) Windows 2003 Professional (SP2) Windows NT 4.0 (with SP5 or SP6a) Windows XP (with SP1 or SP2 with firewall disabled)

Minimum Hardware Required for Each Training Machine:


CPU: Memory: Disk Space: Pentium III or higher (Pentium IV recommended) 1 GB RAM 2 GB (free disk space before installation)

Required Software for the Training:


Please check each item that you have available for this training: Received LoadRunner 9.0 for Windows installation on CD. Downloaded LR90-TrainingSetup-01.zip (the LoadRunner training directory structure and solution scripts.)

NOTE: Files to be downloaded may be obtained from the HP Web site at: http://www.merc-training.com. Select Current Courses to find the download link. No password is necessary.

Other Software Required: Zip utility software like WinZip or PKZip (required to unzip training files.) Browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later) The software listed below will automatically install prior to the LoadRunner installation should it detect they are missing:

Setting up computers for

Fundamentals of LoadRunner 9.0


with LoadRunner 9.0 installation CD ; each step when complete
A. Install and Configure the Browser Make sure that a Web browser is installed on the training machines before you install LoadRunner. If you intend to use Microsoft Internet Explorer: Use Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 or higher. Launch IE browser. Do the following to avoid caching: Select Tools > Internet Options. The Internet Options dialog opens. Select the General tab. In the "Temporary Internet Files" pane press the Settings button. The Settings dialog opens. Select Every visit to the page, then click OK.

Very Important: All installations require Administrative privileges.

B. Install LoadRunner Install LoadRunner 9.0 according to the installation instructions. Run setup.exe from the CD-ROM. Select "LoadRunner Full Setup." Follow the on-screen installation instructions, accepting all defaults, until installation is complete.

C. Install the Training Files 1. Install the Fundamentals of LoadRunner 9.0 Training Directory. Double-click the file LR90-TrainingSetup-01.zip to open it in your WinZip program. Select Use folder names. Extract the files to the drive you intend to use. (Please use the root of the drive letter you intend to use. If you choose to use a different directory and/or subdirectory, this will conflict with the training material.)

D. Verify the Functioning of the Training Web Site 1. Start the Xitami Web server. From the Start Menu, choose Programs LoadRunner Samples Web Start Web Server.

2. Invoke Virtual User Generator (VuGen.)

From the Start Menu, choose LoadRunner > LoadRunner. This launches the LoadRunner main program / Launcher. Under Load Testing Tab click on "Create/Edit Scripts" link. This will launch VuGen. Select File > New from VuGens menu to create a new script. The New Virtual User dialog box opens. Select "Web (HTTP/HTML)" from the list of protocols and click OK.

3. Create a new Web Vuser.

4. Start recording. 5. Type the following in the URL field of the browser and press ENTER.

Select Vuser > Start Recording.

6. Verify that the HP Tours Web site comes up without any error messages. 7. Log in with: UserName jojo password bean and click Login button. 8. Stop recording. The login should be recorded by VuGen.

Select Vuser > Stop. Validate that the script was successfully recorded and there is code in VuGen. Close VuGen. Do not save the script.

9. Desktop setup (OPTIONAL).

You may choose to setup shortcuts for the students on the desktops. The following items will be referenced frequently: LoadRunner Launch Screen (Start Programs LoadRunner LoadRunner). Start Xitami Web Server (Start Programs LoadRunner Samples Web Start Web Server). HP Web Tours (Start Programs LoadRunner Samples Web HP Web Tours Application).

E. Repeat steps A through D above for all training machines in the class.
