Welcome to the Careers and Employability Centre


The Careers and Employability Centre is here to help you learn about employability-related issues. We can help you look for a part-time job, a graduate job, or consider further study or training. Our service is open to all Sussex students, researchers and people who have studied here within the last three years We also offer ways for you to build experience and stand out from the crowd through our bespoke programme of events, tools, and competitions. This includes: x Sussex Plus, sussex.ac.uk/sussexplus - Our online porfolio building system x A Researcher Development Programme for PhDs and Research Staff x Regular events such as Make it Happen!, Startup Sussex and Learning to Lead

What we can do for you


Careers Advisers work with you to help you grow and develop your own ideas about whats important to you, what your options are, and which paths you could take after university. Well never try to tell you which job you should do and our discussions will always be impartial and confidential Peoples career decisions are often influenced by the media or family At first I just pressures. If you already know exactly what you want to do, we can help you on your way by offering advice on finding relevant work experience, interview practice or helping you put together a CV or application form

Help to find a job, internship, or work experience


Although we cant place you directly into a job, we advertise hundreds of voluntary, part-time, vacation and graduate opportunities. You can find these at: sussex.ac.uk/careers/vacancies The Twitter service finds all the best jobs around and puts them in one place making finding grad schemes and part-time jobs very easy. Help to develop employability skills


Developing your skills and understanding what makes you employable is an ongoing process that takes time and thought. We offer a wide range of services to help you explore your options and develop the employability skills youll need after you graduate. It all starts from the first moment you arrive at Sussex!

Sussex Plus
All your higher education experience counts so we offer Sussex Plus to all undergraduates and postgraduates to help you build on your employability skills during your time at university. Use Sussex Plus to connect and review the unique you and to showcase your academic, work, and personal life to employers in your Sussex Plus webfolio

As well as the activities detailed in the Career Accelerator Programme above we also provide a range of other ways to help develop your employability skills Learning to Lead is a unique training opportunity to enable you to gain key leaderships skills, boost your employability and help you to make a difference in the world

Startup Sussex is our commercial and social entrepreneurship initiative with workshops and prizes to enable you to make a difference and explore creative ways to work

Our team of friendly front desk staff are on hand to help you find the best resources and advice for you Check our website for vacation opening times. There is a mixture of drop-in and bookable appointments. Phone us on 01273 678429 to make a booking.

Find us in the Library on the ground floor


The Careers and Employability Centre is on the ground floor of the Library and were not a quiet zone! We're behind the book return area on the right, as you go in. If youre a graduate, you can get access to the Library by talking to the staff in the library entrance.
