Moksha Yoga Inspires Peace On And Off The Mat

August 20, 2013, Toronto ON International hot yoga leader Moksha Yoga is launching their annual Speak Your Peace campaign which sets out to expand the definition of peace by encouraging students and individual communities to take peaceful action, both on and off their yoga mat, as well as helping them discover what peace means to them. Each year Speak Your Peace has a charitable aspect, and proceeds from this years campaign will go to Amnesty International, the worlds largest human rights organization. Moksha Yoga is hoping to raise $60,000 for Amnesty International and raise awareness about peace through three separate Speak Your Peace initiatives: a by-donation class held at more than 60 Moksha Yoga studios around the world, August and September Karma class funds from each of those studios, and finally Moksha Yoga is encouraging students, teachers, and studio owners to engage online via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram about what peace means to them and their communities. The campaign is set to launch via social media on September 1st, and the candle-lit classes will be held on September 21st International Day of Peace. "Speak Your Peace is a way for teachers and students in the Moksha Yoga community to express the power of their yoga practice and help to make a positive difference in the world, states Moksha cofounder Ted Grand. The goal of Moksha Yoga is to create more peace, one breath at a time, one yoga pose at a time. With Speak Your Peace, the Moksha Yoga community is trying to speak about how our yoga practice is much more than just poses. It is about recognizing how fortunate we are and shining a light on social and political issues that deserve our attention. This is why we have partnered with Amnesty International - to raise money and to raise awareness. Moksha Yoga gets more than 2.7 million individual visits in their studios every year, so if we speak together, we will be heard across the world!" Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 3 million supporters, members, and activists in over 150 countries who campaign to end abuses of human rights. Proceeds from the Speak Your Peace campaign will assist in various projects such as research missions to investigate and expose human rights abuse at the source, and comprehensive human rights reports that are respected and trusted internationally. There will also be education and training programs to build a world where human rights are respected and extensive media and communications work to increase awareness of human rights issues. Speak Your Peace will also support Amnesty Internationals Urgent Action Network which mobilizes letter-writers very quickly to write on behalf of individuals in immediate danger, and global campaigns to focus attention on pressing human rights crises in conflict zones and natural disasters. Moksha Yoga is a group of independent hot yoga studios committed to ethical, compassionate and environmentally conscious living. Founded in 2004 in Ontario, Canada by Ted Grand and Jessica Robertson it has since grown into a community of more than 60 studios worldwide, who collectively raise more than $500,000 per year for local and international charities and organizations.
