THE PROGRAM
The speaker who was scheduled to come today had to reschedule (fortunately, because that program sounded very interesting!) to our evening meeting coming up September 10. So, we had to improvise! We had a laid back and informative meeting with trivia and great Rotary stories! President Nora called upon a few members and put them on the spot to share a Rotary story! In between stories, she had some Rotary trivia for

& New Generations (Cliffs note: The latter is corrected to Youth) Q: Name the first non-English speaking country to have a Rotary Club A: Cuba Q: How many Zones are there in Rotary? A: 34 Q: In what year did the RI Constitution change to admit women? A: 1989 Q: The Rotary Foundation was established by whom, which year, and with how much money? A: Arch Klumph, 1917, $26.50 (Cliffs note: the $26.50 was leftover from the International Convention that year) Q: Who took the Rotary banner in orbit around the moon? A: Frank Borman Q: When did the Rotary Youth Exchange Program begin? A: 1927 (Cliffs note: The exchange started between France and Germany right after WWI to promote international relations) Q: How many students participate in Youth Exchange annually? A: 7,000 Q: Where will the 2014 RI Convention be held? A: Sydney, Australia Q: What is RIBI? A: Rotary International in Britain and Ireland Q: How often is there a Rotary Council on Legislation? A: Every three years Q: Why is Rotarys Polio eradication effort called Polio Plus? A: Immunizations for other illnesses are included (Cliffs note: This isnt entirely true. When this program first started it was called Polio 2005. When it came time to promote the program, the media suggested changing the name to something catchier, thus the name Polio Plus was born.) Q: What is the Arch Klumph Society? A: Recognition of donors who have given an accumulative amount of $250,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation (Pres. Noras note: We have 2 living Arch Klumph Society members in our District 5160!) Q: Name the final three polio endemic countries A: Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria (PAN)

Q: How long are the donations to the Annual Fund of

TRF held before allocation of funds? A: Three years before returning to the District as District Designated Funds. The interest pays for the operation of the Foundation. Q: How many Districts are there in Rotary? A: 534
